I’m not calling to move Trouba but the people who do want to move him aren’t necessarily saying he sucks.

Trouba was acquired before we knew what we had in Fox, ADA, and Lundkvist, and now that all three seem like they are panning out, Trouba is the oldest and most expensive and so on that simple fact he’s the obvious one that would be least attractive for a long term rebuild like ours.

Even if the younger kids only end up as his equals or near-equals.

It’s not realistic though. Way more realistic would be playing someone on an off side.

Ok, do we know for sure that Fox and DeAngelo will play at this level for years to come? Do people remember Skjei's rookie season? He was phenomenal.

Either way, the Rangers aren't moving on from a guy they traded for 8 months ago

He also was PPG at wjc which is good for a defenseman.

He is not dahlin but i see top4 NHL potential.

Yeah, and with defenders, so much are about execution as opposed to skill. Nils is executing tremendously well. Nils isn't Erik Karlsson II, nor Pronger II or Doughty II and so forth. But in the tiers after guys like that the sky is the limit. But it all will come down to how well he executes in the NHL, that is of course really hard to predict with defenders.

I also think its really important for a defender to be able to come in and kind of build a symbiosis with a strong team. Keith in Chicago. Letang in Pittsburgh. Carlsson in Washington. Like does any of those Ds even remotely become as good as they did if they instead are tossed on some never ending rebuilding team changing coaches every other year and always missing the POs?

So in terms of capping a Ds potential, I think you got to wait a see a bit. Its and extreme example, but Lidström was seen as a great No 3 when he was 25...

DeAngelo is gaining a track record at this point...he was good last year too, this year the points are coming more as he's more settled. Fox is far better than Skjei was as a rookie. Lundkvist is most obviously still the "odd man out" at the moment as he has no NA pro experience and as we've seen from many players it's a big big jump to the NHL even from another pro league.

That said, this isn't a "long term rebuild" either. This is the team trying to get itself up to competing sooner rather than later while also putting in place a talent pipeline for the future. So with that in mind I definitely agree that they aren't looking to trade Trouba anytime soon. There will be decisions to make down the road but I don't think they're going to do it right now.

Skjei showed a lot of potential his rookie season. What DeAngelo and Fox are doing is much different. They are consistently bringing it game after game.

Purely going off offensive numbers, Skjei's prowess was questioned even during his rookie season because it was a lot of secondary assists padding his numbers. And sure enough...because secondary assists are inconsistent and difficult to replicate season-to-season...they went away, and his offensive numbers dwindled.

DeAngelo has been good for seasons (plural!) so not sure Skjei is an appropriate comparison for him.

Fox, I can see why there would be comparisons (since he's in his rookie season), but his offensive numbers aren't being propped up by secondary assists. He has double the amount of A1's as he has secondary, and almost has as many goals as A2's. Defensively, Fox has shown to be a lot smarter than Skjei did.

So...

Another PP goal today. His current 9 goals are tied for the 3rd highest single-season goal total by a U20 Dman in SHL history.

Him signing a PTO will depend on what happens with the NT once Luleå is eliminated. I don't think it's at all a given, but since he was on the team the last tournament, it would not surprise me if he is at least in the conversation for the NT ahead of the Euro Hockey Challenge and Euro Hockey Tour.

For Lundkvist to be able to sign a PTO in Hartford, he needs to be released by both the club and the national team.

I wouldn't bother trying to bring him over to play for Hartford. Its not enough time for him to even get comfortable being over here. I'd rather he plays for the national team and ideally the worlds...then if he plans to come over next year, he can spend the whole summer to prepare for it...but to be honest I wouldn't be surprised if he spends 1 more year in sweden. the rangers RHD situation allows them to be patient
