Zadorov is the player from the Flames I was suggesting BT go and get all summer as he starts to assemble his big, mean and mobile Dcore of the future.

Poor Treliving he walks away from TJ Brodie and grandpa Gio years ago on Calgary and then ends up Leafs GM and stuck with them again.
I feel worse for the people that have to now read an uninformed post like this than I do for Treliving.

If Calgary is going to pack the season in i'd go for both Zad and Tanev .

Tanev
Zad
8.25m

for

Brodie
Berg
9.15m
1st , top 10 protected
3rd NYI

Tanev might get you a 1st at the t/d and Zad is worth a 2nd at most , they might want to wait and hope there's a bidding war that get's them more but there's always a risk they get injured or there play drops off and they get less or nothing if injured

they can flip Brodie for a 2nd/3rd at the t/d and Berg might up his play so they can get something and if not they'll just let him walk

I think the deal value wise isn't too bad for either team and i don't like giving up more picks but we aren't going anywhere without improving our D .

TJ Brodie is a good regular season defender but the playoffs exacerbate his fear of physical play. Frail and anxious. Crumbles under a heavy forecheck.
Last year TJ was not good in the playoffs.

That is recency bias though, he was very good in previous playoffs with us.

It’s hard to imagine Calgary being willing to take Klingberg unless they are already prepared to throw in the towel on their season completely which I doubt

Matt Dumba - Rumors are Toronto wanted to sign Dumba in the off season but Dumba waned multiple years and Tre only wanted a single year show me contract, inconsistent defender, is a big hitter, right handed shot, 3.9mil . Would be a massive upgrade over Klingberg but again is not a consistent defender, has plenty of blemishes in his game but again would be an upgrade over our bottom 3 defenders.

No he wouldn’t. Dumba sucks defensively and has virtually no offensive game to speak of

Wasn't sure which one the Leafs had the rights to but Pee Wee is dead so I think he meant Jeff

Dumba wont run your PP at this point in his career, but he can play top 4 minutes and log big PK time. Hes a significant upgrade defensively over Kling and in his versatility.

So basically the Q is how much of a drop off do you see on PP from Rielly shuffling up to PP1

We dont but it could work if Calgary retains money, for example we could send Kampft to Calgary if the Flames retain 40% of Z's contract. Not sure I'm keen on trading assets to sweeten the pot for a 5/6 defender who is a UFA. Calgary would have to retain money, which why would they do that if we dont give them a good reason to, and why would we give them a good reason, Z is a bottom of the line up defender. The cap and the value of the player dont make sense for Toronto.

At this point taking Kampf would be doing us a favour. He is nowhere close to a $2.4m player

I'm not sure he is a top 4 on a good team so $3.75M for an expiring 5-6 guy is pretty steep. For sure he makes them better but is he the one they should spend one of their last bullets on? Im assuming he would cost a 1st and something more if they wanted to move Klinger out in the same deal. I don't think the Flames are ready to start a fire sale until they figure out if they are keeping Lindholm and Hanifin.

Edit: Since Zad has asked for the trade I think that hurts his value a bit but other teams have more assets to offer. I am afraid Calgary would be looking for talent not picks.

Dumba is a mess; just seems lost usually when I watch him. He’s arguably no upgrade at all. If by some miracle we manage to dump Klingberg, we better not make the same mistake over again with the cap space

I’d really rather get someone with term personally, unless we can negoatige an extension prior to completing the trade, though that’d increase the price.

I just don’t want to see us keep throwing away assets on guys that don’t stay

Zadorov is definitely the type of Dman we need, hope price is decent. That said, leafs defensive issues are not ONLY the defensemen but the team ‘s overall defensive play. The forwards also making lots of mistakes

Trelivng attached a first to get rid of Monahan.

Thinking KLING is not as valuable as Monahan was so does a trade for Zadarov with KLING involved start with a 1st?

Nobody said we're set defensively. Our defensive results have not been good this season, but adding a bottom pairing LD is not the way to solve that, and Zadorov costs 3.75m and is not really worth throwing out any significant assets to acquire. If we can swap Klingberg for him, I'm game, but that seems unlikely. What seems more likely is Treliving overpaying for a familiar face that tends to get overrated by people like Treliving, who Treliving has already overpaid before.
Are there any Soo Grey Hounds available?

I get wanting someone better than Dumba, who is far from perfect but he's still a huge upgrade in Kling which is why he played the bigger role of the two last playoff.

Feels like Dumba's a 4-5 and this point who is overplayed while Kling is a 6B Powerplay specialist

This would be my question as well. Lots of other defensemen will become available as the season progresses. Do you want this guy so badly that it may prevent you from getting someone better later in the season?

If it’s the only way to dump Klingberg then sure, at least Dumba has a mean streak, I just don’t think it improves us much overall.

He's not a 20 min a night defender, if he is your best option on the 1st pairing, the team is probably playing for a lottery pick vs playing for a cup. He had a noticeable night last night but that is not who he is on most nights.

Klingberg is a negative, McMann is a plus, the pick is a plus, TBH not a terrible deal, adding Klingberg would probably kill that deal.

As I said,

Lybushkin and Schenn aren't 20 minute defenders either. Look what Rielly was able to do with them.

You know what you're getting in Zadorov, and he's a perfect stay at home to put with Rielly..

Brodie-Liljgren
Rielly-Zadorov
McCabe-Timmins/Gio

Looks like a solid defence to me

The RItchie trade is what popped to mind for me with Z And Klingberg

I like all of that, except would like to see more of Lagesson, he has really impressed.

Gio and Lagesson can split 50-50 remaining games between each other
