This D man is trash. 3rd pairing D man.

Flames fans on the main board think he is worth Nylander and a 1st.

For me with that line up, leafs still with a hole on their second pair...

The guy leafs should go for is Hanifin and give him a 8 year around 6M extension ( deal calgary was close to sign with him). You get a guy to complete rielly on second pair and fix a big hole for the next 8 season at a good price

He can play on a shutdown pair, he bring offensive. Hes a great skater. Hes not the most physical but able to use his body the right way. Hes the perfect all-around d for toronto and i dont know when will be the next chance for Toronto to get that kind of D as young. That will probably cost a 1st and minten but your solving a hole for next 8 season.
I mean it’s not a bad idea then trade for peeke maybe a 3rd does it and then the pairs look better we don’t need to chase tanev think cost control

In honor of the Leafs Calgary lopsided trade (in Toronto's favour) from almost 32 years ago...

The Flames traded Gilmour along with Ric Nattress, Kent Manderville, Jamie Macoun and goaltender Rick Wamsley in exchange for wingers Gary Leeman, Craig Berube, defencemen Alexander Godynyuk and Michel Petit, and goalie Jeff Reese.

I attempted to do a similar lopsided trade, position for position:

Bishop, Vldar, Zadorov, Tanev, Kadri (26% retained) for Kampft, Lily, Samsonov, Bertuzzi, Klingberg.

If leafs trading for hanifin, they will not have enough asset left for peekie except if they give up exemple knies, cowan.... kind of thing who should be pretty bad

The fact hes at 3, 75 doesn't mean he will and should have a raise in his next contract...3,75M signed 2 year ago for a 4th/ 5th. Thats pretty close o fhis value on free agency... and he would probably played a similar role than Schenn last season or a similar role of McCabe... nothing more and thats nothing else than a 4th/5th role
I'm not going to disagree about the money and Zadorov, the problem is the upcoming bump in the cap, the team traded for him and gave up valuable assets, if the Leafs go deep and he really contributes he'll draw a lot of interest, there isn't an agent who's ever not gotten a fairly fat raise for a UFA, unless the guy stunk.

As I was saying, I do agree with you, just to clarify I'm a guy who for the life of me cannot figure out why AM is the highest paid player in the league, but there is a huge faction of starry eyed Leafers who believe he "deserves" that money. I do know why he should make big money, but the money they gave him (3 hat tricks or not) after 1 playoff round win after all those tries that he hasn't risen to the occasion, but hey MVP I guess, right?

The problem is, did leafs really need Peeke? I Will say, its depend of how liljegren and timmins looking like when they will come back from injury until TDL...

I would be fine with a line up like

Rielly-Brodie
Hanifin-Liljegren
McCabe-Timmins
Gio

Hanifin brodie mccabe and liljegren playing on pk

Rielly or timmins playing on pp1
Rielly or timmins with hanifin pp2

If Lilly doesn’t have a future here

Klingberg and Lilly (5.5) plus some sweetener (nothing big)

For Z (3.75) plus tanev at 50 percent (2.75)

Could work. I still don’t think it’s the right move.

Rielly. Brodie.
McCabe Tanev
Gio. Z

I would try for hanafin for klingberg and 1st and a prospect

Reilly. Brodie
Han. McCabe
Gio. Lilly

Could sign hanafin for longer at 7 million

Tanev is old. And Z is a 3rd lair.

We did this with McCabe. He wasn’t good enough to spend a too 25 pick on

Edit. I personally like Lilly. But if we only give up Lilly. Abruzze and a 3 or something I think that could be worth jt.

I just hate spending all these assets on players that leave.

IF you could get reasonable contracts I guess it could work.

We need to spend bigger assets on ONE long term peace rather a than tons of assets on bandaids that leave.

So Connor McD did not deserve his contract either, based on that criteria.

Best players (awards) get the highest contracts. Hope that solves things!

Also....rising cap....look into how that affects things too.

For me Muzzin injury really hurt leafs in playoff more than most of us thinking. For me, the only season leafs played like a real contender is the only season Muzzin played every game... its also the season where the core 4 was looking at their best in my mind

If that hole is not fixed, that will still affect matthews/marner/nylander/ jt game, that will stillaffect depht scoring ...

Fix the #2 hole in D and im pretty confident than matthews will look like an MVP

That says unknown injury

Who says it’s a hip?
Thats what I’m wondering
Does it truly matter? He's injured. And it doesn't say unknown injury...they just aren't releasing it..

Injuries, not poor play, force struggling John Klingberg to sideline, Leafs coach Sheldon Keefe says

'How long has Klingberg, who missed time in the pre-season because of an upper-body injury, been playing through injuries?

“Quite a while,”
Keefe said. “Nothing that has kept him out, but it’s something we want to give him an opportunity to work through and have a better sense of exactly what’s going on.”

No way we can’t afford to give up dman on cheap deals that we control for old ufas even if we get a deal signed on hanifan we keep lily he’s of an age with the core I don’t move him and I trade for peeke to add right shot cost controlled

Better than these higher priced veteran ufas costing us 4-5 mill on the decline

I don’t understand why so many fans and media members want to trade Liljegren. He is at worst our 3rd best defenceman right now.
Is it that he never lived up to that pre-draft 1st overall hype?

No one I know about said anything like that I've heard.

But he did have a huge fall off in his game a few years ago, that he really hasn't come back from. Add to the fact that he's had both hips opened up and scraped out might be the culprit.

Remember how Almos game dropped right off the table and then finally pretty much ended his career,

watching him have a decent shift and then the next he can barely do a cross-over was pretty sad.

Abruzzese isn’t worth much of anything, which is why everyone here is so quick to add him to every deal. Reminds me of the Bracco days lol.

I liked him in his call up last year, definitely looked like more of a pro player. Could probably play on a sheltered offensive 3rd line.

I didn’t like him at all last year, thought he was a warm body. Like to be wrong there.

I don't think he was a world beater but he had 8:59 TOI on average in 2 games, he had 2 assists, 60% defensive zone starts at 5v5 and had a 51.9 CF%

That's about as nice as you could hope for him in a call up. I wouldn't trust him for anything beyond that specific role, sheltered 3rd line role, maybe PP2.
