Probably. 4 years $16 million (Thats $4 million per year for 4 years)
Then Gubrandson 5 years $25 million ($5 million a year for 5 years)

Why? Cause Benning

Really? you throw in grade 4 math for those who can't do it?

This thread has dissolved into sadness. Yes we are sad Try left. No we really have no idea what the real issues were. Yes we can all speculate. He may be back, he may not. ( I really want the Canucks to realize that this guy should get an offer in the next 2 summers that is way higher than Sbisa. If it's money wasted, it doesn't compare to the money wasted on way worse 7 - 8 times to less deserving players in last 5 years.)

He wants a sabbatical staycation or a year off with more respect, more hockey for a little less money. Where he is comfortable. I love all of u "fans" who blame him for saying "i have better options ... think about it ... when u make me another offer."

I don't think his ability to play hockey has changed, and I don't think his value as an asset has completely diminished. Hell, Mark Giordano bolted to the KHL earlier in his career and came back to be a great NHL player.

Well his value to us is currently next to nothing, a 4-7th round pick is his current value regards to his rights. Of course his ability hasnt changed, the problem is he isnt playing for us. Trying to use a Canadian player who played his career in North America isnt really helping you. If Tryamkin has a young family who wants him to play at home then I cant even see him ever coming back to the NHL unless the KHL folded, thus really impacting any value around the league. We hold his rights for 5 years, he will make more money and be taxed less over there. I wouldnt consider him to be an asset to us anymore starting now

Disappointing but that's the risk with drafting Russians. Here's a shock, some people in other countries just don't want to live in North America just as people choose to live in Edmonton or Winnipeg over Vancouver. Completely unfathomable, I know.

That being said, the BS that WD pulled at the start of the year and calling him out after the Bruins game certainly wouldn't help. The calling out as he did it, without any credible supporting explanation, may work on a pimply faced kid in Medicine Hat but it's not working on a 5th year pro who has options back in his home country.

And for those blaming Benning, and there's a ton to blame him for the past couple years, him and Linden are on the same page far less than 50% of the time. How the coach was handled is only the tip of the iceberg.

Also, those crapping on the picking of Tryamkin and the 2014 draft itself only need to remember that as a 3rd rounder, Tryamkin played 79 games for the Canucks. In 6 drafts combined the previous regime picked all of 5 players that have played 79 NHL games to date and only 2 of those have played 79 games as a Canuck, with Gaunce being on the cusp.

I liked Bennings interview about it. Gave Tramp a lot of respect and said he chose KHL for family reasons and took less money. Basically leaves the door open for his return if that happens by not burning any bridges. Also said he would be qualified so we retain his rights.

I'm shocked at the reactions here.

The guy resisted north American culture every time he had an opportunity to assimilate. Hell, a translator for his debrief after 2 full years in the league? Hell no.
Wife still lives in Russia
For those that have him on instagram you saw he's on the plane the very next day.

Hell, the guy was probably miserable here. No friends on the team (except sibs a, I think?) Vancouver if ****ing hard enough to make friends, never mind the language and cultural barriers.

By the time he was given a buddy in Goldy, he wasn't with the team due to injury and probably not have a chance to bond and probably not have anything in common because goldy is canadianised already and has a large circle of friends.

No fun when you're losing. So when his contract was up he took the first opportunity to bolt.

Should we have drafted someone else? Maybe. But you can easily fake it in an interview that you want to be here. Especially through a translator.

Love his size. Love his shot. Unsure if he can put them together and use them with aggression.

He's still our guy. We get some success and some other Russians and maybe we get him back at some point.

If not, at least it was a 3rd, I think? Round pick. Those are the ones you start to take risks with.

Meh. Not surprised.

I highly doubt Tryamkin will be making less money over there compared to Bennings offer. I would guess 2-2.5m a year for 2 years was offered since we are too cap strapped to offer more, but realistically he is not worth more than that yet anyway. His KHL club has a new rich owner as well. Put this one into the Benning lying to save face pile

Well now that Gillis has been brought up... :sarcasm:

Anyways I call this one a soft blame. Like under Burke then Nonis, guys never gave the team a break when signing a contract. Then under Gillis, all of a sudden lots of players are taking a discount? Any single one you could call it a one off of the guy being good to the team, but all of them together builds a trend.

So again with Tryamkin here it could just be a one off that was going to happen either way, but it really feels like it's part of a recurring trend. Like if Tryamkin was a Toronto prospect and got a steady 17-18 minutes all season for the Leafs, would he still be eager to go home right now or would he stick with the NHL?

You can't really say either way, but this one feels a bit like the Vrbata situation to me.

We should draft Klim Kostin just so we have more russians on this team for him to come back.

Well they fired the ****ing coach, and he still he has to go to the KHL?

I bet the whole "you're 6'8 and therefore need to be fighthing" also played a role.

Hopefully he will still come back in a couple of years once there is a new management group here.

Still have to give Benning credit for finding the guy, but you'd think more could have been done to ensure one of your brightest young players will be happy.

Tryamkin deserves plenty of "blame" too, the decision is his and he came to camp out of shape. He would have gotten his shot if he wanted to work for it.

It's not like Tryamkin hasn't fought before in Russia and I remember him saying he protects his teammates when he was describing his game. But the game is so different in Russia that a lot of things he probably doesn't understand.

Yeah, I have to agree with almost all of this.

Just a **** situation to deal with after the year Canuck fans have been put through.

And this has a major impact on our offseason - in terms of potentially trading a defenseman.

Tryamkin was a fan favorite and this one hurts.

I doubt that - if there's one thing about Benning is that he's not much of a liar. Linden on the other hand...

Videos of Pronger? Look, I get trying to teach players to take elements of certain players game and incorporate it into their own, but management/coaching really needs to take a step back and relook at their development model. The goal should be to get the players to be the best version of themselves, not try to fit players into archetype roles that may or may not be suited to their skill sets. I get that the business and sports world are inherently different, but this is the EXACT mistake that managers make with their employees that results in disengagement/good talent leaving or not caring any more.

This isn't an isolated incident either over the past three years. Kassian being told to go hit/fight people more when he was much more of a skill player, Horvat being put in a defensive role and Sutter being given far too many offensive opportunities, Goldobin being benched after a goal, Magna playing with the Sedins, etc. Compound that with seeing your peers rewarded for **** play but their behavior suiting what the coaches/management are looking for (see Sbisa being "physical" in his own end and "tough" in the corners but giving the puck away and getting scored on like crazy), and it just leads to a poor workplace environment where the good talent gets confused/angry while the poor talent is happy. Bad incentive structures lead to bad business, and its not any different for a hockey team.
