I think Kuch is well above Bure, honestly. Stylistically, yeah, it's like a very poor man's Gretzky. Most of what makes him lethal is his ability to make everyone adjust to his speed because he can see three plays at any given time.

But this is a very special player. If not for McDavid, who is a different level of special, like actual low-end Gretzky tier, Kucherov would likely be considered the best player of his generation. The resume is there, and what mainly separates him is consistency.
Kucherov is a few tiers above Bure. He has two cups and is one of the best playoff performers ever.

Here's the comparison for both players 674 games into their NHL careers, the number Kucherov is at now:

KucherovMalkin
296 goals307 goals
483 assists486 assists
779 points793 points

KucherovMalkin
1 Conn Smythe
1 Calder Trophy
1 Art Ross Tophy2 Art Ross Trophies
1 Ted Lindsey Trophy1 Ted Lindsey Trophy
1 Hart Trophy1 Hart Trophy
2 Stanley Cups2 Stanley Cups

Both are pretty similar. Malkin goes on to win a 3rd cup, but his prime years are over. Kucherov can surpass him if he stays dominant longer.

Malkin's numbers were in a lower scoring environment so I'd say he has a comfortable lead during their first ~700 games, Kuch would need some strong seasons after 33 though as Malkin was pretty productive his first couple seasons after 30 as well, should have a good chance since his playstyle and size won't result in as many injuries.

It's not a slight though, who would've thought we'd get a guy comparable to Malkin in the 2nd round? especially when we pretty much got killed by him his entire prime.

Kuch was also, at least comparatively, a late bloomer. I think peak vs. Peak, it's pretty subjective. But Kucherov has to age really well to catch Malkin overall. If ever there was a player who looks like he will age well though...

Kucherov would have better numbers if he wasn’t the the opposing teams #1 MO for every game he played. But props to Malkin i wouldve thought kucherov would have had him beat in points.

Only bright light on this team this season. What a player, if the players around him were playing to their usual standard he'd probably be at 85 points right now
