It’s a little odd how people are acting like Kucherov is off to some crazy start compared to last year, when the reality is that he had 47 in his first 30 games compared to 50 in 30 games so far.

Next thing to watch for is comparing the 65 points in 41 first half games last season and finishing with 48 in his final 41.

That’s the beauty of the failed pace argument. Unless you’re McDavid, you’re probably not running through both halves at 1.6+ PPG each.

Will be interesting to watch unfold.
Sure but he's shooting / scoring way more. He's having a much better season.

watching Kucherov split the Oilers D and score last night was awesome. Just goes to show how powerful and dominant this guy is. He deserves his cookies
Nah, there are other players that would dangle around that defender more elegantly and nice

Kucherov led mcdavid in scoring for 95% of the 17-18 season before taking his foot off the gas as the lightning secured the post season and McDavid caught him in garbage time in the final week of the season as the oilers had well been eliminated and that's literally all McDavid was playing for for the second half of the season. Beat him by 12 the following season with McDavid was healthy. Kucherov is the last player in this league mcdavid wants to give a 10 point lead to over 25% of the season over

Only one team scored 350-400 goals every season in the 80s and that was the Edmonton Oilers (with a peak of 446 in '84 -- nearly 100 more than the next best team).

Now why was that?

(hint: The Oilers suddenly and inexplicably stopped scoring that much in 1988. They were replaced by the new scoring juggernaut: LA Kings)
Haha, when you put it like that....

The 80's were high scoring of course but honestly, 99 & 66 skew it so much. If you remove them from the equation, McDavid was 2 points shy of the all-time scoring record last year and only the 4th player to ever hit the 150 point mark.

Mario and Wayne make the 80s seem like more of an anomaly than they really were.

Mcdavid dusts him in the scoring race every season, so its unlikely he is as worried as you about catching Kucherov.

Kucherov is amazing and i hope he blows past his career high 128 point season this year.

But to the bolded - let me flip it on you.

McDavid is the last player in the world Kucherov wants to have in his rearview mirror, back 10 points with well over half the season to go.

He does? Which top players lists has he been left off of?

Left off is the wrong wording, constantly underrated is more accurate.

Kucherov at minimum should have been ranked as a top 5 player going into this season based on recent track record. Same tier as guys like Drai, Makar, Mackinnon. Instead go look up any "top player lists" going into this year. Most lists have him farther back, and some ridiculously so (i remember one ranking had him #22 or so).

Thing is I don't think kucherov really cares as much while McDavid is all about individual awards. Mcdavid doesn't have that winning mentality. Reminds of jagr

At some point you really do need to get outside. Do you really want to spend your life waiting by the keyboard crippled by fear that there may be a McDavid post you miss responding to?

What part of being the best player on earth in both the regular season and post-season screams loser mentality to you? I know you are just a troll, but let's hear your terrible logic.

Mcdavid is the best player in the post season? What??
From 2018-19 to now McDavid has scored 635 points in 386 games (1.65) or 135 per 82. I know you aren’t a fan of his and that’s fine but surely you have to admit that’s quite amazing considering there hasn’t been a season over 130 other than McDavid since Lemieux/Jagr in 1995-96. The next closest guys for points per 82 since 2018-19 are Drai and Kucherov at 118.

As for playoffs I know it hasn’t translated to winning the big one but since 2019 he has played 36 games scoring 66 points (1.83) or a 150 point pace in the postseason. To me I find that remarkable as you really can’t ask more of a guy if the production is that elite for regular and postseason. In the playoffs if you do points per 28 games (4 series of 7 games) since 2019 McDavid is first with 51 and Draisaitl second at 47. After that the next closest is Nathan MacKinnon at 37.

Definitely the best producer in the regular and post season even if it hasn’t translated to winning a cup. Just my thoughts as a neutral fan in this case who was very impressed watching him these last 5 years.

Makar was the best player in the 2022 playoffs. Mcdavid puts up some points but there is more to Hockey than playing run and gun pond hockey which is what the oilers do and also why they won't ever win

McDavid is 4th all-time in pts/g in the playoffs... He is 2nd only to his teammate Draisatl in the current era and that will change once more games are played.

If you don't think pts/g is a good measurement for the best players (forwards at least), then please explain away the fact that Gretzky leads all-time pts/g for both the regular season and playoffs.

McDavid has actually elevated his game unlike some other superstars I could mention (check your avatar), his pts/g is higher in the playoffs than in the regular season.

Lol the guy in my av has over 200 playoff points top 5 all time with 3 cups 2 smythes. With 180 po games. If mcdavid played 180 po games his ppg would be much lower so please spare me with that nonsense
