Dumb argument. Without MacKinnon, the Avs are likely a fringe playoff team but not a contender (assuming most consider them to be one as is). Yes, if Tampa is without Kucherov, the might be bottom 10. But the drop for each team is about the same if either loses their guy.

That is a dumb argument. If Mack was better he would get more EN points then. Are we going to remove empty net points from all players? If so why even count an empty net goal. Lets just change the rule that if you score an empty net goal, it goes to the other team. If Kucherov was Canadian there wouldn't be a debate for MVP . MAck also plays center where it is easier to get secondary assist especially off the faceoff in the offensive zone.

with nuke taking a leave of absence

with girard taking a leave of absence

with georgiev letting in 4 goals a game in 40% of his starts

landeskog injured the full year

drouin as a gamble, lekhonen injured for months.

Rantanen and Makar cannot overcome any of this by themselves so this argument isn't valid

Kucherov also accounts for more of his team's total points. He doesn't get to play SJ, the ducks, or AZ as often. Buffalo and MTL look like playoff teams compared to those teams.
