I wouldnt blame mcdavid for playing if he wants too. 99 is a very ugly number to leave your season on. Just like marios 199. The playoffs are obv the most important but it will be hard for him to turn away from 100.

this is an Art Ross thread and he literally has an active streak of winning it 3 times in a row

this is like wandering into a Rocket thread a few years ago and getting pissy that people want to talk about Ovechkin
So you need to work on your reading comprehension skills. Try again

I would. Playing hurt this close and getting worse would look pretty dumb considering cup or bust.

Besides... Have a few games without him would be good for the team at this point.

Staying out would be the best thing to do. But neither you or I have ever looked at 100 assists staring at ourselves.

True. But I think the pain of losing the cup cause of stupidity would hurt a lot more than being outmatched. I am sure that is his mindset and the playoffs are his priority, not some arbitrary number.

People are really sensitive with empty net points, get over it. When Gretzky destroyed the 50 in 50 record, he scored into an empty net. Who cares? anyone?

It's part of the game, if your out there in the final minutes of play, your coach has faith in you to get it done. With such a large sample size of points, nearly 140, those emptty net points are nothing burgers.

If Kuch wins, it's well deserved. Stop trying to find excuses and diminesh the accomplishment just because your player didn't win.

You think anyone back in the 80s, 90s, 2000s cared how points were scored? Now people just want to troll. So they bring up every stat to push their narrative

Ya how many PPP though??
Ya how many ENG though??
Ya how many 5v5PTS though??

It’s meaningless and easier to just ignore them. They just wanna piss you off. And it’s been this way for at least 7 years now.

Player 1 won the Ross player 2 won the Rocket.

Without cheating, who do you think won the Hart? The other guy wasn't even a finalist.

Crosby with 120 points won the Hart the Rocket winner was Lecavalier
I've noticed that the "goals count more" crowd only feels that way when it benefits their player in question.

It's not exactly the case of Art Ross being more important than Richard trophy.
Lecavalier barely outscored his own linemate, while Crosby was ahead of any Penguin but rookie Malkin by 50+points. It was easy to see who had been more valuable for the respective team.
Not even to mention that Sid was the golden boy at that time.

McDavid threw in the towel on the Art race. I've been pulling for him but I consider him done now. Two horse race.

Kuch has 2 points lead & 1 more game remaining. I think it's his to lose.

To win 2 Art Rosses in McDavid's era is very impressive, especially the way Kuch did/doing. First winger ever to reach 90 assists mark, and most likely first winger ever to reach 100 assists mark.

Nobody is going to make excuses. At least they shouldn’t. This is about Kucherov peaking higher for point production than anyone of the last 30 years outside of 96 Mario and 21/23 McDavid. It’s his moment. The only ppg that top it in for ‘24 levels the last 30 are 2.06 96 ML, 2.01 21 CM, 1.85 23 CM. Those closest to it are 1.80 if you count 41 game Crosby from 2011 but if not it’s 1.79 99 Jagr and 1.76 24 McDavid and 96 Jagr tie.

Could McDavid have done 160s this year if completely healthy? Judging by his relatively healthy ppg this year absolutely but he didn’t and we know why. The valiant effort you mentioned of 114 in his last 58 is what made it close for ppg anyway and even though that’s a 160+ guy that doesn’t count as the season. That doesn’t take away from what we see this year from Kucherov. No excuses should be made and it’s his to lose now.
We also have to mention that we are in a high scoring era the last few years, so it´s easier to reach those numbers than before. The last time there was a higher goal average, it was in the early 90´s.
