Player Discussion Nick Suzuki Part 11

He is a true 1C to me. I like more Dach for the 1C spot (if he stay healthy), but Suzuki is a unreal two-way player. His shot is great, his passing ability is great and the best asset of his game, his IQ.

We are lucky to have a 24 years old player who is already a big leader, I wanted Guhle in the future for the C, but him and Guhle... two great leader incoming.

Suzuki will lead the perfect way for the forward group.

Guhle will lead the perfect way for the defensive group.

If this is the new Suzuki then he’s one of the best players in the league. If it’s it’s a streak then I guess we’ll see.

Streak or not though, this is another level. Last year he started off crazy hot and then slumped off but even then he wasn’t anything like this.

Everything he puts on the net goes in. His shooting percentage over that time is 33 percent. Even if it was half that thought he’d still be putting up great numbers.

I don’t think he’ll stay this crazy hot, but maybe he really has ‘arrived’.
Since Slaf playing on his line Suzuki game notch higher.

I think you should prepare to be disappointed if you expect Dach to take the 1C spot away from Suzuki. I don’t see that as being a realistic possibility. I like Dach, but he’s not as good as Suzuki and I don’t think he can be with that shot.

So 2 years ago when Suzuki had 61 points the 2nd highest point getter was at 43 points. Last year Suzuki had 66 and the 2nd highest point getter had 38 points. This year Caufield is already at 47 so it's really no surprise that Suzuki is on pace to set another career high in points.

People can claim that Suzuki has taken some massive step in his development this year, but it's not really true, sure he has improved, he's improved every single year so far. But he's still mostly the same player he's been the past couple years the major difference is he has offensive support meaning he gets more opportunities for getting points. As an example if it's Anderson on his line instead of Slaf he doesn't get that assist last game for just winning a faceoff. Like yes he's improved his faceoffs but he wasn't getting the support in previous years that you need in order to produce big numbers. It's extremely rare for a guy to flirt with ppg production when the next closest guy is in the 40 point range or worse.

Indeed. Hard to grasp for some, but quite obvious.

It'll be fun to see what his 25-30 career arc looks like. With the entire roster around him likely to improve significantly, the sky is the limit...

It’s going to be really fun to watch. Caufield should be a lot better next year with some additional time off this summer, I still feel like he hasn’t fully recovered from that shoulder injury. Then you factor in Slaf progressing and hopefully having Dach back full time, Suzuki should be a PPG fixture.

I love his consistency. You pretty always know what you're going to get, aside from some walls he's hit at mid seasons, which is normal considering his game and how much other teams have nothing to focus on but him. Every year he keeps getting better and better. A real pro.
No doubt!

Remarkable consistency under the circumstances of having injured or slumping line mates while drawing full attention from other teams.

Steady 60+ point production every season. Hasn’t had a season where his production has dropped from the previous one.

Last season i said he was already a top 30 center and that he’d be top 20 with 2 good line-mates. He’s exceeded that.

As much as I love seeing Suzuki put up breakout numbers, it also pains me to see it wasted in a early stage rebuild season.

With nick, I would argue it's not so much about development. I've seen enough of him from his playoff performances to see that he's a gamer, and a guy the team can rely on in that platform

It's more about whether he can display more consistency during the dog days of the season to make his stat lines look pretty.

I'm intrigued by a potential Suzuki/Dach duo down the middle. I'm not sold yet that it's enough for cup purposes, but there's enough potential there to at least make you hope.

It's a shame Suzuki is robbed of playoffs again and again. I remember his last junior year and his play against the Leafs in the first round when the Habs went to the finals, and I can't believe he probably won't have the chance to be this clutch again before 2026 (if the plan works)

I remember getting ripped for stating that Suzuki would be a better and more important player for this organization than Caufield due to how many aspects of the game that Nick is so much better at......hardly seems like a controversial statement any longer.

I also was steadfast in my assertion that the only reason that he was not a ppg player already was because the PP was so bad.......they claimed that he was a big reason why the PP sucked lol.

A lot of people didn't see it and they should have.
What is notable is just having stable wingers is worth a handful of points in itself.

I think the sample sizes are now large enough to clearly indicate Nick Suzuki is a PPG player when properly supported.
Something I've believed and talked about since the year he displaced Domi.

He was PPG last season until he lost Dach and still managed 66 points despite losing Caufield as well for a large chunk of the season.

The other thing some people seemed to ignore is the player is still improving.
He has obviously worked on certain aspects of his game. He's shooting the puck better and his face offs are steadily improving.

Thank You Max Paccioretty. :D
You mean Craig Rivet right? ;)
