I think you should prepare to be disappointed if you expect Dach to take the 1C spot away from Suzuki. I don’t see that as being a realistic possibility. I like Dach, but he’s not as good as Suzuki and I don’t think he can be with that shot.

Ok.... but just imagine for a moment you are wrong (and it is still a possibility), just imagine what it would mean for this team if Dach manage to steal that 1C, what a 1-2 punch it would be then.

I don't think people really get just how good Suzuki has been this year, but it would be truly insane for Dach to pass Suzuki on the depth chart. Its kind of been masked because of the quality of the team, his usage and 5v5 production, but overall he's been a no doubt #1 C this season. And not an ideally 2C type like Plekanec, Danault or Koivu were at the top of their games, but a true #1, top 15-20 C in the NHL. Less so in the first half, but he's been playing at a top-10 C level since the All-Star break.

I'm high on Dach's upside, but I have a hard time imagining him having the same upside as Suzuki (really high) upside with his shot and injury history.

Next season, I expect CC to find his 50 Gs form and for the entire line to hit PPG, including Suz with a 105 pts season.

A healthy Koivu was better than Suzuki. Easily.

I don't think 50 games is enough to really say that about Koivu. That's about the amount of time he's been healthy and playing at his best. Post-knee injury Koivu is not better than Suzuki, nevermind easily. Suzuki is the smarter player, more versatile and where he's leaps and bounds better is defensively. Koivu was not good in his own zone and an at times a disaster post lockout. I would take Suzuki comfortably.

You are not remembering Koivu before his knee injury, he was amazing for that short time.

I can't say I agree. I think Saku was a very good #2C with good leadership qualities and the heart of a lion.

He probably would've had a more productive career had he been healthy for it throughout but unfortunately that wasn't the case.

He was amazing early on but no way in hell was he "easily" better.
Also, one has to give credence to the fact that one player was injury prone and the other has never missed a game since he came into the league.
Personally I would take Suzuki over Koivu.

To be honest, with the way guys like Kucherov, Mackinnon, McDavid, etc are aging, this new era seems geared towards high end players peaking in their late 20's compared to their early 20's like the 05' lockout to COVID era. Conditioning was already a thing in the mid-00's so it can't be only that, but I would guess the lessened physicality of the game is allowing guys to have longer primes.

I could see Nick still reaching an even higher level next year. He's one of those cerebral players who thinks the game the right way and tries new things.

There were a lot of names thrown out there last summer as being far superior to Nick Suzuki.
Funny enough when you looked into it the players were all older or much older and they weren't comparing like for like.
I mean JT Miller was brought up and he only hit 72 points in his 8th or 9th season.

If Suzuki continues this upward growth, with Slaf and CC getting better also, I honestly think 50 goals from Suzuki isn’t out of the realm of possibility. His shot is ridiculous.
50 is rich but I did say he had a 40G shot on draft day. Hes always had that ridiculous shot. Its crazy how good it is. He couldve made a career of just being a triggerman. Hes getting very confident in his shot now, and teams are noticing. Its incredibly hard to cover a guy that can beat you in every way at this high of a level.

Tools wise, hes the closest thing weve had to Kovalev. A+ puck handling, shooting and passing. Its amazing.
