This bum is one of the worst contract in the league, apparently, according to this big brain from The Athletic

article is from July 2022 ... it's almost like a young 22 year-old player can get better — dare i say, more consistent — upon reaching their prime?? :sarcasm:

He’s officially arrived. 1C confirmed.
Let's not get ahead of ourselves. He's been consistently good for only three seasons. What about that month or two his production dropped in the past two years when everyone was injured and he was playing with actual AHLers? A real 1C would turn Jesse Ylonen into a 40 goal guy.

You know he's really just leeching off of all his wingers going on hot streaks while playing with him. It's just a coincidence that he APPEARS TO BE the common denominator, I'll tell you what that's just luck though; he's really lucky to play with Caufield, Toffoli, Gallagher, Slafkovsky, Anderson, Newhook, Dach, Monahan, RHP, Armia, Hoffman, Lehkonen, Pitlick, Drouin, Perry, Kovalchuk, etc.. and it's really just a coincidence that all of them scored at their highest paces here playing with him.

Another storyline to watch as the season rounds out. I've argued before that Suzuki has it in him to be a PPG player, with his best at around 90 points, when he's got a full supporting cast and considering his year over year scoring improvement up until now. If he manages to come within 3-4 points or even achieves PPG this year, I'll need to reevaluate him.

Couldn't have picked a better player and person to be our captain for the next 10-15 years. He is pure class and turning into an elite center right before our eyes.
People don’t seem to put to much stock into durability but there is value for a captain to be on the ice with your teammates EVERY SINGLE game, despite the losing seasons

With all the injuries this year, I did not see NS being a PPG player.

Easily their best player and his play this year is a good sign moving forward. NS is the core of this team, no one comes close.
A lot of people didn't see it and they should have.
What is notable is just having stable wingers is worth a handful of points in itself.

I think the sample sizes are now large enough to clearly indicate Nick Suzuki is a PPG player when properly supported.
Something I've believed and talked about since the year he displaced Domi.

He was PPG last season until he lost Dach and still managed 66 points despite losing Caufield as well for a large chunk of the season.

The other thing some people seemed to ignore is the player is still improving.
He has obviously worked on certain aspects of his game. He's shooting the puck better and his face offs are steadily improving.

Thank You Max Paccioretty. :D

He's likely to pass both goalposts I see on this board: 70+pts and PPG. What's the next target he will have to meet in order to be considered a 1C around here, I wonder? So much crow being served up this year. Might as well serve it with gravy and cheese curds.

So now does that meet the criteria for Suzuki being a 1C?

Sure debated a lot this year about it…
If this is the new Suzuki then he’s one of the best players in the league. If it’s it’s a streak then I guess we’ll see.

Streak or not though, this is another level. Last year he started off crazy hot and then slumped off but even then he wasn’t anything like this.

Everything he puts on the net goes in. His shooting percentage over that time is 33 percent. Even if it was half that thought he’d still be putting up great numbers.

I don’t think he’ll stay this crazy hot, but maybe he really has ‘arrived’.
