Player Discussion Nick Suzuki Part 11

I would have liked to see some growth production-wise. He was bad for a while before CC got injured too. Dach was producing well with Hoffman and Dadonov as well. I'm not asking him to be McJesus, but a guy like Larkin is essentially playing alone up front with the Red Wings but has 60 points in 63 games and will be making 850k more than him. I wouldn't even be surprised if Suzuki doesn't hit 60 points this year.
Sometimes all a player needs is a good jinx. Thank you

I love the player but next year the big challenge will be to stop having those long mid season drought, its been two years now that he’s been thru 15-20games were he was irrelevant, can’t have that if he wants to be consider a true 1C

Agreed, but let’s give him some slack for this year. He played a large chunk of the season with rookies, washed-up vets or plugs. His point totals are actually quite remarkable considering there was a slump in there.

For all the talk about Dach being better or Suzuki being pushed to the wing if we get PLD, let’s stop to consider that on this terrible year, he is on pace for over 25 goals and 68 points. Hell, his 61 points right now ties PLD’s career high over 82 games. Dach or PLD could do a lot worse than being Suzuki’s winger.

Considering Suzuki lost his only winger that’s on his level, he’s actually having a pretty good season.

With Caufield back in the fold he would’ve been close to PPG.

That Caufield-Suzuki-Dach line was something else once they got comfortable together. It is too bad Dach wants to be a C so bad because that line is magic, and Dach is a pretty darn good winger.

That was the best line I’ve seen from the Habs since I was a kid. Depending how the draft lottery goes/the PLD situation it’s entirely possible that Dach ends up back on the wing at some point.

I hate to make this a PLD thread, but if we did get him, I would put him on Dach’s wing and have a Slaf-Suzuki-Cole line. One shooter per line (PLD and Cole). If Slaf is going to play in the NHL next year, let’s build his confidence by playing with our two best players like we did with Dach.

PLD always had hard times with his coaches because he wants to play center so much. If we acquired him and give him a 64m contract, I can't see him play the wing on opening night, not a great start to a relationship. I think Dach will be back on the wing with Suzuki and Cole.

Well this didn't age too well as he's now at 61 points.
Good job ignoring the rest of my post, literally everything else still stands so the actual message didn’t not “age too well”. Im also probably Suzukis biggest fan on this board.

I think he's been playing crocked for ages and is now much healthier. That would also impact his mental angle on games.....
Caufield would probably have another 15 goals by now and does anyone think Suzuki wouldn't be involved in like half of them.
Tack on another 7 or 8 points and he's damn near 70. Dry spell or not saying he was irrelevant is just flat out wrong considering his matchups his linemates and his TOI despite being dinged up and how irrelevant the team around him was.

I hate to make this a Slaf thread, but I couldn't agree more with this take on him.

Imo he needs to be given a real look on that line next year.

His production was decent for his role, ice-time and line-mates this year. He would have had a lot more points if others were able to convert his plays. He has some nice playmaking ability. He just needed to learn how to protect himself on NA ice. Let’s hope he learned that lesson. His size and skill combination would be welcome in our top 6.

70 for your top producer is atrocious nowadays. This isn't 2014. Most teams have at least one ppg player. Suzuki is 67th in total points, and 86th in pts/game (min. 30 games played). Meh. I love Suzuki, he's a good two-way player who can show wizard-like stuff on the ice, but him being our best producer is depressing.

For my whole life Habs had a drab offense. And there's nothing sexy in the pipeline (at forward, Hutson is as exciting as you could ask for a defenseman). Better pray we get in the top of that draft or this won't change.

That isn't Suzuki's fault. He'll be a PPG I'm sure but he will never be a superstar which is why we talk about surrounding him properly. If he hits 70 in the shitshow that will be remembered as the 2022/23 season I'm good with it.

I'm with you. This was the very best year to finish as low as possible in the hopes of snagging a superstar and the bleeding hearts who claim the odds are only blah blah and blah blah winning culture are flat out wrong. In what world would you not want the best odds for anything?

Some people are very analytical and some are more emotional, that applies throughout life. I too was hoping for a last place finish, doesn't make me better than those that hate losing though. Maybe a little smrter. :naughty: I get hating losing, but sometimes it's best to just take your medicine if you want a contending team.

The best is to have 3 good line, witch means spread 3 good centers on center. Su, PLD and Dach.

I would go with

CC-Su-Anderson
Gurianov-PLD-RHP
Hoffman-Dach-Slaf
Belzile-Thierny-Gallagher (replace Belzile by Pezz, Thierny by Evans or Dvorak)

No center unhappy, let's all make them play their center role as they are supposed to.

It's like we started our course of antibiotics but didn't complete the full regimen.
