Hou need to split post ELC and at UFA : post ELC Suzuki is not clearly not as good as Hughes, Svecvnhikov, for Tkachuk I am not a fan of power forwards so I d say I prefer Suzuki. Suzuki right now is also not as good as any of the players above but he has upside, which they don’t have at their age.
Suzuki is as good or better than most of those players. Most if not all have played with better linemates.

He is definately a first line player. Every season he as some growth on his game i dont believe he as peaked at 22 yo.. he will get 60 this year. With who? A third of a season with a hot caufield?

Nah.. I think he is the kind of player that will add some tricks in his bag over the next few year. And that's without talking about his 2 way game, X factor and playoff clutchness so far.

He is a keeper.

Btw about Pleky he started a full NHL season at 22 years old.. the current Nick's age... he had 29pts in 67 games.
His first prime production year was his 3th season where he had 69pts playing alongside Prime Kovy as a Hab he had 84pts and Markov 58pts that year.

Give Suzuki a true star player and a real quarter back.. he will destroy those Pleky stats.. dont get me wrong I loved Plekanec but Suzuki will be better he might be close already if not better

We rehiring Ducharme too?
What? No way!

It's Therrien that we need to show them brats who's boss.

Back to reality and Suzuki, he's the only one that clearly gave a f*** for the most part of the season and that to me is worth more than the missing 20pts to reach 80 that some is complaining about. He'd easily be at 80 if anyone else could have given a single f*** about this season since Weber and Price announced that they were out.

19 more pts than the 2nd highest scorer on the habs and nearly twice as many points as the 3rd highest scorer.

He wouldve hit 70 for sure this season if the habs had a better offensive team.

And a better D. The time the Habs spend in their zone getting hammered and incapable of getting the puck out is time that Suzuki/Caufield don't have in the offensive zone

I think rebuilding the D core is a bigger priority than rebuilding the offense. I'm 100% all in on having an offensive minded team but we're also going to need the D to support it.. That said both can probably accomplished at the same time when/if you have a front office that knows what it's doing. And on that front i have more confidence in Gorton/Hughes than MB by 100 miles.

I disagree with this take. Unless by rebuilding, you mean developing the D talent in the system. This team is missing a future no. 1 D. Worse case scenario, Habs draft 3rd and take that sought after D. If not, it still remains a priority. Guhle, Romanov, Barron, Harris, Mailloux. I think the Habs have in their system currently, 3/4 of a future top 4 and others to fill out the bottom pairing. So when it comes to the backend, development is pretty much all that's left. But I agree with the rest of your sentiment

As good a season as he ended up having production wise, I do feel his two way game has gone down a bit in the last few months. He has the potential to be really elite in that department and I hope he'll go into next season with more of a focus on being a complete center, the way he was as a rookie.

I mean a mix of both. If we can rebuild solely from within the organization that would fantastic yes and we do have some nice D prospects in the system no doubt. However building a D with only guys you drafted rarely happens. Those contending teams Ds usually have a guy or 2 they trade for or sign as UFA (IE : Tampa traded for McDonagh). It is possible to do it yes but everything must fall into place perfectly and all your guys need to blossom as they should which is never a certainty.

That said that's why i'm all about drafting Nemec if we don't get Wright and that at #2 , #3 or #4. If we can get either a 1C or 1D our of that mess of a season that would go a long way into enduring the suckage we had to go through this year lol
