Literally everyone is saying to give him the C in the off-season so not sure what "problem" you're referring to.
I understood differently— I thought it was argued for Suzuki to get the C asap as in this season.

Encouraging to see him at a point per game since the coaching change. No doubt playing next to CC helps. They're going to do well together.

Definitely need a bigger guy on the wing with them though. Anderson makes sense for now but I'd like to see somebody with a little more talent there.

There is no rush. He will enter his 4th season
Success or not next year there will be a new captain. So we can also get rid of the worst captain after Pacioretty we had in this franchise.

There is nobody else to be captain material besides Suzuki.

Gallagher sucks
Byron lol
Edmundson would be a joke
Anderson is not captain material

Give the team to the kids . Suzuki is proven in playoffs and regular season and hes insanely young
Why would Edmundson be a joke ?

After Anderson, our only candidates are Dvorak, Poehling, and Evans, IMO...

If Anderson can't play with them, where can he play? I worry about this and think he should be moved to avoid getting stuck with another albatross contract.

Slafkovsky would make sense if we are not picking 1st overall

I could see Eddy being given captain, but wouldnt be surprise with suzuki neither.

I wonder how Gallagher would feel about being jipped.

Only issue with Edmundson is I think making him captain would likely make him difficult to trade because it's pretty unlikely you make a guy captain and trade him in the same season lol. I'd rather keep my options open there.
I don't think the plan it's to trade him either, we will need to keep veteran player and Eddy is type of guy that I want to keep around our young player and will stabilize a young Defensive corp.

Goner in a year in a half at best
Not been long enough here
Not part of the core.
#4-#5 dman should never be named captain.
He's under contract until 2025 and he seem to be the players choice for the next C. It would give Suzuki time to establish him in the league before having the pressure to be the Capitaine for a team like the Habs

completely disagree , nothing will change for Suzuki in 2 years. Edmundson is not captain material. Just because he gives 2 stick check is not enough.

You gotta show it on the ice. Suzuki is playoff proven and regular season that he can handle the heat and he's literally the face of this franchise at this moment. I don't think him giving a bit more interviews would disrupt his plays at all.

Giving captain for not even 2 years to a player is simply useless. Suzuki deserves it in anyway possible.

being a leader is also not only talking to the media and giving high sticks all over the place.
Being a leader is giving the example on the ice and Suzuki has been doing it better and better since his first year.
He showed us that he can play againt any line and give his best effort.

He wouldn't be. Some posters exaggerate way too strongly on these boards. Edmundson is one of a very small group of candidates that could actually make sense to name captain this offseason. I mean very small, like the group consists of him and Suzuki.

Personally, I would stay an other year without capitaine but like I said in the lockeroom, Edmundson seem to be the leaders and that was report by many players. Suzuki is still really young and he will need to be more consistent. Next year, he will already have the pressure to play on his 1st year of a big contract. I'm just not sure they will want to give him that pressure. Lecavalier is a good exemple, he had the C to early and they give it to a Vet after because he wasn't ready so I do think they will be careful before giving Suzuki the C.

Sure but I'd rather keep the option open of trading him and I don't think it's smart business to trade a captain so quickly. I'd just give it to Suzuki and let Edmundson be a role model to him. I've yet to see any reason to be weary of giving it to Suzuki anyway. He's mature, smart, plays hard, answers the questions honestly etc... will be a long term captain for sure.

I can say what I think Gallagher can do if he feels slighted at being passed for the Habs Capitancy but I think this is a "PG-13" message board.

If the management think he is ready to have that role then do it ! I trust them and I'm sure Vinny will be involved in that decision but I don't think that if they name Eddy, it would be a joke.

Giving the captaincy to Edmundson for a few years is the ideal situation, he's the perfect guy to be a buffer for all the young players we have coming in. I think he's better suited to deal with all that stuff right now and in 2-3 years Suzuki will be perfect and a little older. Let him just concentrate on dominating on the ice for now, being so young he'll have all the time in world to be captain.
