the stat is meaningless when comparing players playing on different teams. For players on the same team, the stat is a lot easier to contextualize and make sense of.
If I was comparing him specifically against another player sure maybe you could say that. My point is quite different. If we ever hope to win anything this is the way we have to do it as a group. I agree that the state of the team as a whole will affect the numbers. I thought -10 after 82 games last season was a decent stat for Suzuki.

There is nothing funny about it I'm referring to top contending teams in any given season. There isn't one who don't have a top line dominate the even strength situation. What I find funny is people who don't think the +/- is a worthwhile stat in a sport where scoring more is the only way to win.

Yeah, but that's what I'm saying, top teams have a top line and a top 5 five man unit that generally scores more. Its almost by definition that this happens. Great teams have great players who are better than the average of every other team. As a unit, not as individuals. Put Hoffman and Drouin on his wings and he'll be a minus even if he's playing at the level that he is right now, hence why its a stat that needs enough context that its relevance is questionable at best.
