Would Washington really give up Protas in a deal for a guy like Robertson though?

I’m struggling to understand where the value is for Robertson. He has shown to be undersized, often injured and currently has 1 point in 14 games in his draft +5 season, who recently requested a trade out of Toronto. If the Leafs want a productive #3 C it will cost more than Robertson, in fact Robertson would be the +, unless it’s a cap dump situation, which the Leafs can’t afford. Wingers carry the least value of any position in hockey so I’m not sure what the Leafs could get for him but it won’t be much. Fabbro was just picked up off waivers and Sprong was just traded for future considerations, different ages but more proven productivity than Robertson. Y honest opinion is that he gets a mid level pick or a change of scenery prospect swap.

There's no point for the Leafs to at best get a 5th or 7th for him. Just ride it out and hope he figures it out, he has the tools, good speed, great shot, great effort. Maybe he's just a AAAA player, too good for the A/not quite good enough for the show, but he also has shown upside to be a guy who can get 20-30 goals.

Leafs could use all the scoring depth they can get, so no point in trading him for nothing. I'd rather he just flop and at least there is a definitive answer on him.

I agree with everything you said here, we might disagree on goal scoring potential totals but that wasn’t the point of the post. The only other reason I would understand would be to get a higher potential less developed prospect with more years of waiver eligibility - but I would assume based on the team, all leaf assets will be utilized for now pieces. Bringing us back to your original point - no point moving him because he checks a lot of boxes for under $900k

This the HF boards, acquiring brothers on the same team is the dream come true. Protas brothers could be the next Sedins, Richards or Gretzkys, and the small one 6'5" 201 lbs.

Not a fan of Robertson, but I care about Jarnkrok even less. I’d rather just ship Jarnkrok out, he is so vanilla plus he totally disappears in the playoffs. Useless.

Jarnkrok and Robertson are both the wrong stuff for different reasons. Jarnkrok is a smart, rice cracker bland player who can play a utility role but has no discernable pop in his game. Robertson has one over powering shot but doesn't think the game that well and his business to effectiveness ratio is not that good. Where Jarnkrok is dependable, Robertson isn't. Where Robertson has upside, Jarnkrok doesn't.

The Caps traded up 7 spots on draft day to take Ilya Protas, so despite a 3rd round pedigree it seems the Caps are pretty high on him, and unlikely to move him at this point.

His brother was also a Caps 3rd rounder; in a 2019 redraft he likely goes mid-late first.
