For me its down Foligno or Dubinsky. I think Foligno is probably the best combo of on ice performance and respected player. Dubi is the heart and soul of the team, but he might be best in a bad cop role.

The only thing that worries me is that if Dubi doesn't get the captaincy there could be some friction. If I remember right there were some reported problems in NYR room after he lost out to Callahan in the captaincy race. Hopefully the players get to nominate some candidates that way the room is on board with any final choice.

I found absolutely no evidence of this when I googled it, not one single thing that indicated any sour grapes by Dubi in any form or fashion. I also never heard of that. It would be nice if you throw some wild accusation out like that that discredits one of our most respected players, that you site and source your information. Not saying you're lying, but I found absolutely nothing on this when I looked it up.

The Boone kool aid has been dispensed in great quantity and many have gotten drunk upon it.

Decent player with mystical leadership qualities.

Steve Yzerman is highly regarded as possibly the greatest captain of all time and he very rarely was an in your face guy or said much to the team. He led by example and that's exactly what Boone does and why he's respected and seen as a future captain. decent player?? I think I might disagree with you on almost every single one of your posts, ha

Jenner isn't a legit first liner. No way should he be on it. Handles the puck like it's a live grenade a lot of the time. Johansen should have either Hartnell or Foligno along with Atkinson- and even Atkinson isn't a first liner.

Does anybody really believe that a 22 year old with 103 career NHL games and 46 points is going to be named Captain of the CBJ?

I seriously question your ability to evaluate talent, I think you should come by this summer and let me tutor you on the fundamentals of the game and how it works, haha

My vote was for 'other', as in McOther when we win the draft lottery and slap the C on him at the draft podium

Hey Crosby was captain at age 19..

Obviously way different scenarios as the leadership is already here in spades. But you never know..

Why don't you rank the current forwards on the CBJ from best to worst for us? Let's see how you evaluate talent;)

I will bet that you guys disagree about some things. There - I have saved you both a whole lot of time. You're welcome.

See, already you have lost the point, every player has certain roles and certain styles of play that need filled and you can't do a 1-12 ranking in the generic sense. Now if you said, rank the best goal scorers or forecheckers 1-12, that would be doable.

I have to question your criticism of Jenner as well. Because Jenner had 16 goals and 13 assists for 29 points his first season, as a rookie in 72 games. And this year coming off a broken wrist, and a fracture in his back, put up 9 goals and 8 assists in 31 games. And as I mentioned , the team was 11-0-1 when him and Dubinsky are in lineup. He creates a ton of space on the ice for the other forwards, and is 21 years old. In Johansens first 2 seasons, he actually played 10 more games, and totalled 14 total goals and 19 assists for 33 points. So Boones rookie season basically equaled Ryjos first 2 combined. No to mention that Boone has been a leader from day one. Remember Boones first camp, when all the vetrans were giving interviews about how physical he was in camp, and that he needed to tone it down. Think how much are culture has changes since then.

I just don't look at him as an appropriate first line player on this team.

I'm not enamored with his puck handling skills. Nor his creativity. He doesn't appear to have the vision of the ice that I associate with a first liner. He's obviously a physical player who dishes out plenty of hits and wins more than his fair share of board battles. He seems to have a quick release on his shot and has quick decision-making skills regarding when to shoot. He's definitely a player who has significant value to the CBJ.

I don't feel that Johansen's ability is maximized by having Jenner and Atkinson as his linemates. One or the other, along with a Foligno or a Hartnell would be ok. That being said, neither Atkinson nor Jenner are the 3rd best forwards on the team, so from a pure talent assessment standpoint, neither are ideal first liners.

That's all I'm saying.

When you played Ice Hockey for Nintendo, did you line up 5 skinny players because they were fast??

This is where I don't think you understand how hockey works, maybe you didn't play so it's harder to know but you need different roles within a line, you can't just put of the same on a line and it's going to work. There has to be chemistry and there has to be someone to go in the corners and dig the puck out and set up the other guys, a guy that will hit and open the ice up for the others, one with a little speed, one with a little more playmaking sense, one that will drive the net, one that will stay high.

Boone fits our first line perfectly, he's a perfectly good stickhandler and has had some nice moves, the penalty shot especially. I've never heard anyone other than you refer to him as hands of stone when stick handling. I like the chemistry Boone, Joey and Cam have.

It appears your favorite type of player is the fast, flashy dangler that dekes around and puts on nice moves. Instead of mucking and grinding for his goals.

Whatever. Coming from someone who honestly believes that Boll was an asset to the team this past season, I'll take your mindless insults with a grain of salt. Or less.

If you think that Boone Jenner is the only forward who grinds and creates room for the CBJ, then I really don't think that you watch the games. Folgino, Dubinsky, Hartnell, Calvert, and Dano can all serve that roll. 4 out of 5 of the named players are better overall players as well.

If you think that Jenner handles the puck as well as Hartnell or Foligno, then I give up. He doesn't. He's mediocre in that department.

I'm not a fan of "balanced lines". I prefer a loaded top line. Given the options that HCTR has, Boone Jenner doesn't fit my ideal first line. And, yeah, I prefer highly skilled players to dime-a-dozen middling muckers. Most people who enjoy watching winning hockey do.

FWIW, I played hockey (most of the time) from the ages of 4 through 30. I've had the opportunity to talk hockey strategy at length with current Norfolk Admirals coach Jarrod Skalde.

The notion that Boone Jenner is the only choice to be a first line winger to Ryan Johansen is silly. But, probably less silly than being opposed to buying out the contract of the uber useless Boller.

Nobody said he was the ONLY choice, but he works there and the other lines are working the way they are constructed as well. You need to roll 4 lines to be successful and keep the scoring balanced. When you load up the top line, it's easy for the other teams to just focus on shutting down that line.

So you're saying that Boone is a "dime a dozen middling mucker"?

I said that I enjoy skilled players over middling muckers. I never said Jenner was dime a dozen. Jenner is a decent scorer when he plays with Johansen. Most players will be. Without a top player, he's a 30-40 point type tops.

Hartnell and Foligno can distribute the puck so much better than Jenner. Johansen's scoring opportunities with these two are much greater than with Jenner.

The Blackhawks play with Toews and Kane on their top line. They've won 2 Stanley Cups loading their top line. Getzlaf and Perry play together. Voracek and Giroux play together. Multiple players with great ability playing with one another are hard to shut down. Lines with one great player and two lesser players aren't as hard to shut down. It's easier to key on the great player and neutralize him if his linemates aren't highly skilled.

Toews and Kane actually don't play on the same line very often at all. How many cups, combined, do Getzlaf, Perry, Voracek and Giroux have?

We dont have a Kane for our Toews, a voracek for our Giroux or a perry for our Getzlaf. .you could argue Foligno but i dont think he hits 70 pts again.

Bottom line Johansen is our only elite player (besides Bob) we dont have the skill/talent to load up one line with all of our talent. Spreading out all of our talent throughout all four lines and causing mismatch nightmares for the opposing teams.

Yet it took Ryjo his first two years to equal what Boone did goal wise, and assist wise, in one season. You realize he is 21 right ? Ryjo was a shell of himself his first 2 season. Im sure Boone is, all he will ever be:)

This might actually be one of the few times as a CBj fan I don't see how we can really lose. All 3 of the top choices have what it takes and i'm sure that whoever is named will get the job done.

Before people start spouting off who should be Captain...Isn't the first step to define the role and responsibilities of the Captain?

Need a leadership presence on the ice (team, opponents, officials), in the locker room, with the coach, front office, media and community.

I think we have people who have leadership qualities, however some of them have slight deficiencies.

Dubi and Hartsy - Way too emotional on the ice. Dumb penalties. Need them here and add great value, but
Jack - vocal enough in the locker room? Jack seems to be a "just do it" guy.
Foligno - Has matured in all aspects of his game. May be he best fit right now.
Boone - Clearly has all the intangibles, just needed him to be on the ice this year.

I would have to say the choice is down to Foligno and Boone. I am glad the organization has waited, as the wrong choice is usually a disaster.

Okay I just don't get it. Understanding that we're not privy to what's happening in the room I just don't see the leadership just bursting out of Boone. And don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of his, but to me all this seems to have come out of Porty's ramblings and everyone has latched on. Now if he is the best choice, i.e. the guys/management decide to name him, then I'm cool with it and behind him 110%. But I just don't see it.

For the record my vote is Nicky.

Good post.... the Dispatch does impact fans... Boone Jenner is good but he has no right to be CBJ Captain over Nick or Dubinski... Jenner hasn't earned anything other than press by Portzline and my friend Jeff Rimer...

The same thing happens in Buffalo, radio stations in Buffalo rule the roost.... the media.

Tempted to set up a second poll as a "run-off vote" with just Dubi and Foligno (since they're the runaway favorites" and see where those other 44 votes go. ;)
