Okay I just don't get it. Understanding that we're not privy to what's happening in the room I just don't see the leadership just bursting out of Boone. And don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of his, but to me all this seems to have come out of Porty's ramblings and everyone has latched on. Now if he is the best choice, i.e. the guys/management decide to name him, then I'm cool with it and behind him 110%. But I just don't see it.

For the record my vote is Nicky.

I voted for Jenner because when he came back, the whole team changed speed. That didn't happen with dubi or anyone else, other than bob. The guy just carries himself and the team in a way that transcends his age. That being said I'd be fine with any of the 3 leading right now being C. I do worry about Nick a bit so Jenner or dubi would seem to make the most sense from my perspective.

The Boone kool aid has been dispensed in great quantity and many have gotten drunk upon it.

Decent player with mystical leadership qualities.

Voted for Foligno - seems like he really expanded his leadership this year, improved with more responsibility on the ice, etc. Not a hot head and also doesn't go into coach speak after losses too much.

Team was 19-8-4 with Jenner playing. 23-27-1 without him. Captain or not, he's huge for this team and he and Murray HAVE to stay healthy next season.

What if it were David Clarkson? I can't imagine the reaction on here.

Going through the list:
Dubinsky - He's very emotional and vocal. Really cares about winning which is good, but do you want your captain to wear his emotions on his sleeve?

Johnson - He's been one of our more consistent players. He plays big minutes every night, is a personable guy, and is regularly in the lineup. His relationship with Richards might be the X factor (example: Richards didn't fight tooth and nail to get him on the Olympics squad) so maybe they aren't super tight.

Johansen - He's the most talented player on the roster. Nash argument essentially.

Jenner - He's a natural born leader, has been captain at numerous levels prior to the NHL. Plays "Jackets" hockey and is young. Maybe he's a bit too young?

Murray - He's our best defensemen, has been captain at every levvel prior to the NHL. Personable guy, young, and gives good interviews. Him being off the ice more than on would obviously be a major barrier.

Foligno - He has shone when he was the captain of the All-Star team and seems to have become the voice of the team. He's been quite a surprise, though, so he is relatively new to having a prominent role on the team.

Letestu - He's been an Assistant Captain for a while now. Players think highly of him, he could be a coach in the future. Problem is, will he still be here in the fall?

Bobrovsky - Everyone loves him. He's simultaneously our best player and our mascot at times. Unfortunately, goalies can't technically be the captain. Also, I think he's most likely to just tell the guys to "go out there and have some fun!" (Like he does in those commercials).

Perhaps Boone isn't the best choice for captain right now, but he's been labeled as 'future NHL captain' since he broke into the OHL. To say that he doesn't have any leadership qualities is flat out ignorant.

FTR - Foligno is my choice, followed by Dubi.

Never stated that he didn't possess leadership qualities. He's been a captain at many levels. I just think that he's over hyped.

Overhyped ? How do u come to that conclusion ? 16 goals as a rookie . Plays on our top line as a 22 year old . Team was 11-0-1 when him and Dubinsky played together this season

I was going back and forth between Foligno and Dubinsky, but after watching the post season interviews, I think I'm swaying towards Foligno. If you haven't watch it yet, I would recommend it how Foligno talks about the team, and how he says things like "I'm really proud of the guys."

No doubt guys like Dubinsky, Jenner and Johnson are important to the team, and I've even extend that to guys like Hartnell.

But Jenner especially I think is too young right now. In five or six years when when he's 26 then I think it could be time to look at Jenner as a captain, but at 21 and with only 103 games experience, I don't think it's his time quite yet. I'm not sure why Portzline keeps pushing this, either.

Dubinsky is no doubt part of the leadership group, but Foligno seems to be a little more on an even keel.

I don't think it was meant that he was overhyped as a player, just overhyped as captain material.

Lots of good points made here. My pick would be Foligno as he seems to have become the voice of the team in many ways. I love the fire that Dubinsky brings, but as many have pointed out, he sometimes can get too emotional. I think Jack would also be a strong candidate. I just think Boone needs more time to develop before being thrust into the leadership roll. I simply hope for two things: 1) The decision comes from the room, and 2) It doesn't cause any unnecessary friction amongst what seems from the outside to be a very close team.

Has there been any clues to how the decision will actually be made? How do other teams do it, i.e. is there an accepted way for naming a captain?

Foligno with Scotty #2. both seem like perfect players to captain this team.

Frankly, the only name on that list that would make me flinch is Joey. And that's mostly because he strikes me as more of a guy who needs to be led rather than a guy who leads. Not that I think he's doomed to stay there forever, but right now it would feel premature to me. :dunno:

On the positive side, I think Joey's noticed as much - "when I listen to these guys, I can kick ass" :)

I voted for Filigno, but Hartnell was a close second. I like Nick's intensity, but I think Scott would handle the role well and not let it weigh on him like it could some of the younger guys.
