Just use a scouting service and have a small amount of scouts to scout little-known players in obscure league. It's weird that 31 teams all think they can somehow create the best scouting/best analytics when that obviously is not possible. No real reason to believe they do any better at it than people who don't work for teams could.

according to this the Rongos are actually good at drafting

Which NHL teams have drafted the best and worst since 2005?

NYR were only 18th in total wins gained from the draft (Devils were last lol), but 7th in draft results weighted against the draft positions they've had (Buffalo last), and 3rd best drafting outside the 1st round after Tampa and Carolina (Oilers last)
This was a good read and very telling. The Rangers clearly are doing a better job at the draft table than some of the posters here think. Thanks Gordie for a job well done.

First noticed by our friend Amazing Kreiderman, and confirmed by Larry Brooks. Nick Bobrov is gone.

please can OP, or Mods, fix title?
since pointed out, i cannot un-see it
it's giving Bobrov credit for Bread's, Zib's, Buch's even Nils' and Paju's production ...

Usually takes 4-5 years for kids to surpass the development phase and come close to or hit their pre-draft potential

Hagelin drafted in 2007 -- potential reached in 2012
Stepan was drafted in 2008 -- potential reached in 2011
Kreider drafted in 2009 -- potential reached in 2015
Fast drafted in 2010 -- potential reached in 2016
Miller drafted in 2011 -- potential reached in 2016
Skjei drafted in 2012 -- potential reached in 2017

Skater-wise, time already passed in 2014 and 2015 -- those are terrible. 2016 is about to close (Reunanen right now is a No. 6 at best all things considered; Ronning still unproven). 2017 is looking bad because of Lias but Chytil has another year to take that major step forward and Barron still unproven. 2018 looking ok but nobody proven. 2019 looking ok but nobody proven.

I mean, we're still in the "prospect" phase for most of the kids still under contract or organizational rights. Not one kid drafted outside of Shestyorkin has made the NHL team better, meaning their production cannot be replaced. They're either gone, busted, in depth roles, or completely unproven.

It's the 10th-11th hour for most of the kids.

That's why I feel the real window for the Rangers opens in 2-3 years when Laf and Kakko have matured a bit. We should see Chytil take another step this upcoming season too.

Someone should email this to Dolan

If Cullye becomes that hard banging middle sixer and one of Berrard or Vierling pan out, it's a different ball game.

And Lauri Pajuniemi now signed is officially anointed as the latest "mid-late round Euro skill pick who we hope becomes that 30-goals scorer" we as a fanbase have been thirsting for since Prucha.

Basically first it was Fast, then Kovacs, and now Paju to "please become the Rangers Viktor Arvissson".

...And Lauri Pajuniemi now signed ...

But is he? The one and only source, for this, was a CapFriendly tweet, weeks ago. Which other outlets repeated.
With Finland's WC ending tomorrow, maybe something official within days, as w Nils' not long after Sweden was eliminated.

Re your point re scoring hopes for Paju, neither of those Swedes had produced like Paju, and neither had played at their highest domestic level. But agreed, Paju has much to prove and earn when he arrives in NA.

He's signed. @Amazing Kreiderman can confirm.

Paju can be as good as he wants to be. No one thought Prucha would score 50 goals in his first two NHL seasons so I'm not buying the size thing with Paju.

He gotta dig deep and go to work. If he can only reach an AHL level, then that is that but as long as he works at the NA game.

Pajuniemi was released by the Finnish federation prior to the WC and therefore free to sign.
