Isn't this the guy who just spilled his guts to the press about the coach not trusting him and not knowing what else to do?

How's that NOT needing a change of scenery?

Kid sounded pretty frustrated to me, as in he was at his wits end. Has there been an update to that story that I missed?

If we are talking just about picks:

Well he wouldn't get a top 10 1st round pick in return I know that.

Maybe a late round 1st.

I would make this trade. Dallas could protect kling, hamhuis and Pouliot.

No Hamhuis is not getting protected and we would protect Johns amd Lindell over Pouliot. Trading for Pouliot for us is dumb. Either he is good and we lose him in the draft or he is bad and we lose the trade. Adding a D who needs to be protected only works if Johns or Lindell go the other way. Johns amd Lindell only go the other way for massive over payment or as part of a package for a legit top pairing LHD

Okay what about fleury+2nd for lehtonen+Nichuskin. You get to keep your D at the draft and get a better goalie

Literally nothing has come of that because it was nothing to begin with. He got played as a young kid who was frustrated with his own play into venting to the media. It was just after a game where there were I think 6 penalties on each side of the ice. He does play PK and our top PP line ran most all those opportunities. So the game he vented on he had about 10 minutes, didn't produce and was frustrated.

Media targeted him and asked very leading questions that anyone without lots of interview experience could have easily slipped up and not gone by the book. There was and still hasn't been anything bad between him and Ruff or him and Nill. He has said he is happy here but just frustrated with his own play. Something every player should be if they go through a bad stretch.

To reiterate it the only thing that has come from it since the slip up is people like you jumping to random threads and adding "isn't this that Russian kid who hates his team and had publicly said he isn't happy?"

We are not talking picks. Dallas has no need to move him and contrary to what a couple have said, he is happy in Dallas and management think he is part of the future. Yes we are deep upfront and he is movable in a package for a top pairing D but if none are out there I am more than happy to keep Nuke and his at absolute worst 30 points next season

Habs offer DD and their 2017 1st rd pick.
Or Emelin and their 2017 1st rd pick.

In my opinion, just another in a long line of Russians that just struggle to fit. Takes them a little longer, it seems, like defense. Some become better, others wash out. But, that happens with players from other countries, as well. Will Yakapov, a #1 overall become something??? I think this year is make or break for Yakupov, but Nicky has a bit more time, a year or two. If I was another team out there, I would roll the dice on both, depending on cost.

This is a horrible excuse imo. If it was true sure, but it really isnt. Tons of players struggle the first couple of season no matter if they are american/canadian or not. Look at Panarin, was scoring at an elite level in his first season. Tarasenko needed 1,5 season to develop and them boom, almost ppg player. Yakupov played two years in the OHL before he played for Edm. He has been in the us since 2010 and cant take it to the next level. Saying he struggles because he is russian is a horrible excuse. Nichuskin i kind of get because he hasnt been in the US for that long but still, its very individual and 99% of the reason for how they play atm is because of how good they actually are right now. Not because they miss their mom....

Ovi is the best goalscorer in the game, Malkin has been great from day 1. Benn scored 22 goals in his first season as a 5th round pick. Burmistrov struggles as a top 10 pick. Mcilrath struggles to get into the lineup as a top 10 pick etc. You can pick players from every country and you can make a case for it both ways. 99% its a horrible excuse for a guy not living up to the expectations. Not everyone will turn out like Malkin, very few does. Some late picks like Benn will be great from day 1 etc. You never know because many of them are still very young when they start playing in the NHL. You can look like a first line lock for the next 10 years when you are 18 and turn into a borderline NHL player or you can go undrafted and turn into MSL and be elite from 26-40. Its tons of luck involved along with proper coaching, developing etc. Expecting everyone to be in their prime when they are 21 like Stamkos etc is unrealistic.
Yakupov is a bust so far but he is still 22. He sucks defensivly but you never know how a guy like Mcdavid can turn a guys career around. Im not a Edm fan or Yak fan at all, but put him with Mcdavid for the next 10 years and he will probably turn into a 50 point player or better. He has tons of skill and did go #1 for a reason. He sucks defensivly, dont know how they will fix that because he hasnt been getting any better in his own sone since he started playing in the NHL.

Why does he seem like he needs a change of scenery? He's played essentially two NHL seasons, happy here, and he's got a good spot in the lineup next year.

No interest. Even if Val never develops a top-6 scoring touch, he's still got plenty of size and has great defensive play, whereas I would not want Yakupov on a "defensive" line.

I thought he was unhappy with the ice time he was getting? Or is that another Nuke that said that.

Ya people just need to realize this past season was his sophomore season after having major hip surgery. At times he was dominant and other times he was quiet. IMO he will be an extremely good player. Other players that had comparable offensive stats in their sophomore season are.... Galchenyuk, Huberdeau, Zibanejed and Johansen just to name a few.

Now having said that, I feel this upcoming season is a huge year for him and he needs to show he can excel in the league

I can't speak for the others but Galchenyuk had 11 more points and in 14 less games than Nichushkin, and he did this being a year younger if you compare season to season properly. Last year which was Nichushkin's third year in, not sophmore, well... one scored 30 goals, the other didn't and actually regressed from his rookie year. And both players missed an entire year of development. Night and day my friend.

Ah yes that legendary sophomore season when he played 4 games in 2 months while needing hip surgery and 4 games after returning from hip surgery for a grand total of 8 games. That definitely counts as a full season of play.

Even if you actually consider his third year as being his sophomore season, it's still not close. One has a pace of 39 points the other 30. Galchenyuk outscored him in 14 less games still.

I realize it was technically his 3rd season this year but Im just saying due to his injury that kept him out of almost the whole season a couple years ago, it was basically his second season this past year.

And my bad, I was just quickly looking through stats and saw Galchenyuk only put up 31 points in his second season, but didn't realize it was 14 games less than Nichushkin's year this year

Atleast read the thread before you post stuff like that. He is happy here and management likes him. He is not available for picks or prospects
