What happened to Nuke? Why is his value so low?

Because people don't watch him play and think that just because he was a 30 point player in his second full year he can be had for nothing. His value isn't that low but stat watchers who never see a player play on this site only see a 30 point Russian flight risk who complains to the media.

Those who do watch him see a young solid kid who when is on his game can take over a shift like anyone else. He needs more time and he will be just fine

Had a very promising first season, riding shotgun on the Benn-Seguin Express, but then got derailed with injuries and surgery, hasn't been the same since.

Maybe he'll get an extended look back on the top line next season, but if he can't click there, it's back to the bottom six he goes.

Or elsewhere, for a fair price. But I don't think our GM's in any rush to move him.

He's got a huge frame but looks so awkward skating
He's fast because he takes less strides, but I didn't think he was that quick during this year's playoffs. Very clunky, like a high school kid who has not grown into his body, at 21/22 he should be there. Didn't sound too happy from that Russian report either no other Russian teammates could just be interpretation. Maybe 1 yr post hip surg he will look better
He got benched in the 2nd round if I'm not mistaken
Would be selling low now if he's available

Kid has so much talent. I doubt he gets moved as imo his struggles were related to his injury. Guy is going to have a bounce back year and most likely put up 50 pts

Jannik Hansen for Nichushkin and a mid round pick is something that might work.

Dallas gets a useful utility player on a cheap contact who can play up and down the lineup.

Vancouver gets a young sniper with top 6 upside and a draft pick to help the rebuild/retool/reshuffle

Oh, you mean like Nichushkin?

And why are we adding to this?

With the acquisition of Sergachev, i would do a deal centered around Beaulieu and Nichushkin.

Beaulieu would have a great look at top 4 with Dallas and Nichushkin would have the opportunity to complete Mtl's top 6.

Two very talented young players that might be a better fit with the other team.

Would probably need some equalizers on both teams, favorizing Dallas.

Dallas has organizational depth at RW with Val, Ritchie, Tufte and Gurianov, but only Val is guaranteed to be in the NHL come October. If we trade him, we become extremely thin on the wing.

Not a fan of either team, but what about....

To DAL: MAF, Pouliot

To PIT: Niemi, Nuke

I think landing on Malkin's wing could do wonders for the kid.

As a hockey fan I like it, as someone who follows an Eastern Conf team I don't

This answers Dal G problems, Gives a countrymen to Val, Dal fans will tell you they have enough prospect/ready to play D men (which they do-may be your only flaw here), and Niemi is there when Murray falls. Pretty good all around, nice job

And Dallas is still not interested in that trade. Out side of a top pair LHD all other D for not D trades kill us in contracts. We are already pretty well guaranteed to drop one D through waivers this year and a trade like that would make it 2.

Not to mention we have an abundance of young guys that need the ice time on D and we are very thin at RW

Ya people just need to realize this past season was his sophomore season after having major hip surgery. At times he was dominant and other times he was quiet. IMO he will be an extremely good player. Other players that had comparable offensive stats in their sophomore season are.... Galchenyuk, Huberdeau, Zibanejed and Johansen just to name a few.

Now having said that, I feel this upcoming season is a huge year for him and he needs to show he can excel in the league

If Niemi was a UFA after this season I would consider it. $4.5 for this year and next year with Nuke needing a contract, no. Replace Pouliot with Kunitz and you got a deal. Other wise, take out Pouliot from the original offer.

MAF >> Niemi

Pouliot = Nuke

Why the hell would they want Kunitz?

Your assessment of MAF vs Niemi is only looking at the players only, you may want to consider contracts and the looming expansion draft. IF Fleury would waive for Dallas (decent possibility), you're saving 1.25 mil in cap and getting a player with one less year of term. Keeping MAF means you have to protect him due to NMC, thus exposing Murray. Niemi, on the other hand, fits the criteria of exposing a player, and may be the guy taken.

In the Nuke vs Pouliot debate, I disagree with your assessment. While neither have accomplished much to date, Nuke definitely has the higher upside. It's easier to protect a forward in the expansion draft as well, there's a strong chance Pouliot is exposed on either team.

He would be great on the Rangers and fit well into the youth movement they're doing. Don't think Dallas moves him though.

In terms of the Rangers, maybe a deal around Klein for Nichushkin with whatever picks to even it out

Don't know though

This is unfortunately all the Rangers could offer. Unless they are interested in Raanta as well, then maybe some additional pieces could be added on both sides--rangers couldn't take back Neimi though, so it would have to be a 3 way deal.

Honestly, best proposal I've seen. PIT gets another top-6 capable weapon up from, and out from Fluery AND protecting him during the expansion draft, all at the cost of their #4-5 defenseman, plus they still have veteran insurance in the event that Murray can't get the job done.

Dallas gets an actual goaltender, and a steady defenseman who is good in his own end, and has lots of room to grow.

one of the few nice offer...would like this trade for both team...

Malkin-Nuke...wow!!! niemi give veteran assurance for Murray...4,5 is no big deal since Murray in on cheap contract...

Fleury give Dallas an upgrade and chance to win...the window is open now!!

Pouliot give a LHD dallas can use..

Brett Ritchie get a roster spot for nuke departure...

both team win... somebody grandpa can call jim nill and make him believe he's JR?

Yeah there are alot of extremely talent player out there that had underwhelming sophmore years. This is a big year for Nichuskin. If he he only manages 30 points again then I might start to worry as that is 2 years of stagnated development. But until then we have to look at him like MTL, OTT,FLA and CBJ looked at their guy

We have no room for Pouliot and we would lose him in expansion if he's any good. There's already a roster spot for Ritchie and he'd be the only RW with any NHL experience on the roster in 17-18 if we trade Nichushkin.

Leafs could offer up Kapanen and 3rd like another poster suggested, I don't think we could go much further then that though.

Personal opinion is Dallas should just hold on to him and see what he does this season. He had a bit of a set back with that knee injury so they still need to get a better sense of what they have with him.

I would make this trade. Dallas could protect kling, hamhuis and Pouliot.

Hamhuis is not getting protected period. If LV wants to waste their pick on a 34 year defenseman signed for 1 more year be my guest.

Pouliot would have to compete with Johns , Lindell for protection spots. Only if he shows he's better than them he would be protected.
