He's gonna fizzle out in the KHL and want to come back and I hope Nill just gives him the finger.

If he busts in the KHL, what would make him think he could come back to the NHL?

Maybe you guys should go play 3 years in Russia and then I can call you a baby or entitled <nationality> when you go home.

I really do think people should stop and seriously entertain this thought before ranting about Russian players who want to go home. Leaving your entire life behind to go do a high-pressure job in a foreign country is much easier said than done.

The first round picks have been awful for the Stars in recent years.

why did he cry to the russian press about unfair treatment by ruff the club? i'm sure nuke had pretty good reasons to bail out. the club was aware of them and didn't care much, they pretty much gave up on him when they signed hudler. i think him signing with the khl club is win-win for all concerned

That's a great question that no one can answer. Either A) he's entitled or B) he doesn't understand the distribution of ice time. Because he specifically said he'd be doing better if he played 20 minutes per night but only one Dallas forward played over 20 minutes last season and that was Jamie Benn. So he either thinks he should be on Jamie's level or he doesn't realize that no one is playing 20 minutes.

My post was mostly venting after seeing the news, so take it with a grain of salt, lol. As far as the second part, I can totally respect if a player is homesick and would like to go home to play for a bit, that's not an issue to me. It'd the way in which you do so that does. Now, most of what we've seen has been translated from Russian sources, so maybe context is not included, but it's seemed like he's been complaining about not getting more chances and ice time, despite that not being the case or that he's not earned more while other players have.

Again, maybe it's all lost in translation, but I think the communication needs to be worked on, and if he really has been prissy about his ice time, his attitude needs to change as well. I'm disappointed as I had high hopes for him, but after this last season, I've soured on him and am just annoyed at how this has all progressed.

He has every right to go, but Dallas isn't losing a key player on their current roster. He still has a lot of development left.

Yes it is

Yes, the NHL and KHL have reached an agreement in recent years to honor the other leagues contracts with their players and will not poach them out unless the player decides to retire from the NHL or they are a RFA like Nuke is/was

Its also a reason the NHL set the big procedure of re-entry for guys like Kovalchuk needing approval from all teams and all that jazz just so players dont decide to fly back and forth whenever they feel like it if they left with term remaining on their contract

It isn't locked for two years as some claimed earlier in the thread; he apparently can opt-out after the first season of the deal if he wishes:

Well this pretty much tells the story then. Obviously will make more in Russia than he could have made with Dallas. Maybe he tears it up in Russia and he can be trade bait or maybe long shot but Dallas offers him a bit more because of his play.

If the feud between Nuke and Ruff is real, he isnt coming back next year

Ruff will not be gone after this season

Who knows...Dallas might have helped broker this to get him more development time and to use his $$$ and contract spot to address a need for this year?

Phewf! The Oilers dodged a bullet here. If he lasted 3 years in Dallas, the kid would have lasted 3 months on the Oilers.

They definitely didn't but I'm sure they won't complain if he does take this time to develop further
