Over/under on how many times were going to hear LV hockey players in the news? :P

Just kidding, Im sure they will be super responsible given the city they're in.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but if Vegas does get a NHL team does that mean people in the Casinos can no longer bet on the NHL games since there would be a local team? I'm pretty sure I remember hearing that logic about the NBA if they ever wanted a team a there, because I think that was mentioned when their All Star Game was hosted in Vegas back in 2007.

The gaming regulation is somewhat awkwardly written to someone like myself, but I don't believe that will be the case. They put the responsibility on the sports books to ensure the person placing the bets isn't involved in the event, which makes sense since the book doesn't want to take action from someone that can have an impact on the outcome.

We've been able to bet on the Nevada Wolfpack and UNLV Rebels since the early 2000s, which was not the case prior to the change.

I cited the regulation here....

It's not written in layman's terms clearly. But if I read it correctly, the NHL would have to submit a request to prohibit betting on a Las Vegas team. Otherwise, it's allowed.

There's a ton of professional athletes that have off season homes here in Vegas. I imagine you'll hear about the pro hockey players here as often as you hear about the other pro athletes that already live here.

I was in LV this past week, stayed at the Maloofs' Palms resort but didn't see any obvious signs of them promoting the drive for NHL hockey on their property.

Out of the corner of my eye, I did however notice something on a digital billboard while driving north on the I-515 around the Whitney or Winchester areas. No time to snap a picture though, unfortunately.

It's not really their's anymore. I think they kept a small percentage to avoid some taxes, but they're pretty much out of the Palms.

Most of the stuff is in the "normal" parts of town. Hockey Vision is setting up some events and doing appearances now, so I'm guessing they were planning on this being a project more than an instant sell out type of thing. I guess that makes sense given the fact that there's no actual team.

It's pretty bad timing for the whole thing considering the political climate here after the just recently failed taxpayer funded soccer stadium.

Lots of dumb people on social media/local news sites advocating against the hockey team to try to save their taxpayer money:shakehead

Especially when the arena is 100% private and is currently being built right now. We folks like that against sodo arena here claiming that the public tax payers are paying for it when that's not what the agreement says.

Quick update on this. Foley is on Vegas radio right now and said his most recent update is 6,950.

He sounds like he's pretty positive. Wants to be hands on, knows it wont be a great "money making venture."

I'm texting trying to get some questions about arena revenues on the air. We'll see how it goes.

ETA: Says (pretty directly) that it will be a "single expansion." However, won't guarantee it's an expansion. So, there's that. :)

ETA2: Wants to emulate the Sharks and Lightning as a franchise.

Yea it was always a possibility that Vegas is announced first then Seattle later. Personally i wouldn't assuming Vegas is getting a team via relocation as its not a guarantee that a team will get relocated never mind relocated to Vegas if there are other superior markets wanting said team. I think Vegas' best bet that they will get a team via expansion.

Yeah, I included that to make a point about how the single expansion point doesn't mean much.

It'll probably be for the best for both Franchises if they do them as separate announcements

1) they don't want to be holding up Vegas just cause Seattle is taking longer to get an arena plan finalized if its going to be built elsewhere in another location.

2) They probably do not want Vegas to be in the shadows of Seattle when it comes to national media attention. Getting Vegas their own day with the Media will help the franchise out.

@reporterchris: Glass half full or empty? The Las Vegas season-ticket drive is only 3,000 short of its goal, but has taken 2,000 deposits since Feb. 12.

Drive is at 6,800. Apparently it really slowed down after the 5,000 in the first 36 hours. Not the news I was hoping for. On the bright side, apparently they're not counting the casino group buys, so it's 6,800 real, actual people.

I'm not really that disappointed. I always thought that there would be an initial jump, then it would be a bit slower. If they can continue to average 1000 new seats per week, that would put them up to 10,000 by the middle of March. Apparently the top 2 tiers and the lowest tier are the ones selling the fastest. Need more people in tiers 3-5.

I think once the team is announced the numbers will increase as a bigger pace.

I would also expect single expansion of he sells enough tickets. Alignment and scheduling work just as well with 8-8-7-8

It'll come down to what happens with Seattle in the next several months of if its gonna be a single expansion Vegas now and Seattle later or both now.

I agree on there being another spurt once/if the team is announced. If that happens at 10,000 or so, that would put the team in a pretty awesome position for the first few years. Starting a franchise with 12,000 season ticket holders would really get things going.

If you want my opinion, I think privately, its already a done deal that Seattle and Vegas are getting teams and it won't become public until everything is finalized. This assumes a double announcement. Since its a private done deal NHL can easily change their minds with out any public backlash.

That's pretty encouraging. I recall Foley stated he wanted the drive done by the end of Macrch so it looks like it's still on target.

Agreed from another post, lean away from a gaming nickname. Black Knights is kind of growing on me.

If they can hit 10k before April, they've pretty much got the team IMO, although they might have to wait another season to work out the logistics. Seattle's still waiting on their environmental impact study, and Quebec is lingering around in the background. Interesting times.

Slow down's only an issue if it continues to slow down to stagnation. If it gets a few hundred each week, they'll hit their target before it's all said and done. I'm sure that they'd like to hit it sooner than later, but I think that having it done before the draft would be fine, too. Some will complain how it took months instead of weeks, but there were already people complaining about how it took weeks instead of days, so you're not going to make everyone happy.

As for the team name, I used to be okay with the Black Knights or just Knights, but.... I don't know now.... they'll obviously be in a division with the Kings, and LA will not only be one of their logical principal rivals but likely also a major road draw for visiting fans. Kind of sounds like you're setting yourself up for a little brother naming mentality from the onset from a branding perspective.

Granted, I'm almost assuredly overthinking it.

I think it's great news. Hitting 10,000 season tickets sold to real people and THEN knowing that the total will get bumped up even more when the casinos get in on the action will only help the cause.

It also means Foley is putting the public first and not letting the casinos grab all the best seats.
