@NikC and everyone else concerned about this...

If you log in to ESPN+ now, you'll see Thursday's game against Dallas and Saturday's game against Montreal in the upcoming NHL schedule. These are not ESPN+ exclusive, but rather part of the out-of-market package.

They also show 6:30 start times, but these are regular 7pm starts... I interpret that to mean we're getting the pre-game shows.

Felt this would be the case also but last night the stream didn't start until 6:45pm or so (not sure exactly when it finally kicked in)

Might have just been a glitch/mistake last night. Post Game was on tho so there's that.

Apologies if this has been covered - just found out that xfinity and msg are in a dispute so they aren't carrying msg right now. Any idea where else I can watch the games (via stream or otherwise) if I am in-market?

Espn+ just have to wait i believe 48 hours, altho maybe they changed it to 24 hours now. The opening tnt game did not show up on espn+ Wednesday but Thursday it was on the app and watchable.

Vpn and fake gps locations do not get around espn blackouts. With a vpn enabled all videos will say content is not available or accessible

VPNs and the ridiculous access issues aside, I’m finding their coverage less than stellar - the ad break placeholder is awful and the amateurish cutting between locations/commentators is laughable. It’s early days but you’d think ESPN would have their sh#t together….

So now you can watch the ranger Dallas game on demand on ESPN . It must be for 24 hours that you can’t watch on demand games

It's a little unclear what happened with that, other than the Rangers pre-game being an hour long for the MSG opener rather than 30 minutes it is normally.

For me it says content not available in your region, i live in dallas. It must be 48 hours after the game ended before it becomes available when the game takes place in your region.

The funny thing is when the game was live i was able to watch the game. I started the game late and watched the first 2 periods before getting busy where i couldn't watch. Went to watch the third period and that's when i got content not available :biglaugh:

I've spent 25 plus years in TV prod... I actually LOL'd at having Sam talking ('...did you see that?') & someone testing the telestrator thinking they were "clear" AKA in commercial. It happens but that was like 20 secs

Didn't know if that was downstream of MSG or Downstream to ESPN+ issue

Since the person testing the tele drew the lines on the rink it WAS working properly lol

Pretty disappointed so far. ESPN+ is a big downgrade relative to how I used to use NHL.tv (unless I am stupidly missing something) specifically the inability to watch games the night of unless you catch the stream live. Frequently I would buzz through a game at 9, 10 pm after other work/family commitments were handled and that isn't possible with ESPN+.

The lack of "Play from Start" is a similar issue but less frustrating.

When you go into ESPN+, scroll down until you can pick a specific league. Choose NHL and you will see the games available "on demand". Have not tried to start an in progress game from the beginning yet, so cant comment on it.

I did check on my spectrum to see if they were offering a free preview. They are not, but seems like they selling the package for only $60. Has been $150-200 the past few years. Not sure if that is an early bird price or because I had it last year and canceled for this year. But, if anyone hasn't ordered yet and you have cable, might be worth checking out.

Yea they come available but it isn't immediate, and it seems as soon as the live stream ends the game disappears. so if you miss the 2.5 hr window it is broadcast, you are waiting until the next day if not full 24 hrs. Haven't checked the exact timing.

Thanks for the tip on CI, may check that out.

Ha, yeah that was fun. Sam: "I'm nothing without my phone"

ESPN + sucks. Living out of market and not being able to see all the games like you could on nhl.tv is a major disappointment.

I get all the out of market games…?
I’ve tried to watch a couple games that’s weren’t on there. Not just ranger games. And then the black out for nhl network games is annoying. I even have the nhl network but I stream it and they don’t allow you to stream the games on their channel. It’s annoying

TNT games dont appear on espn+ until the day after. Washington game didnt even gave a feed to say blackout opening night but showed up next day available to watch. NHL Network games also dont seem to appear on the espn app probably until next day as well.

ESPN+ has been dreadful compared to NHL.tv. I watch 95% of games on delay, and ESPN+ has no concept of avoiding spoilers. There's no "Start from beginning" setting, so if I start the stream before the game has ended it picks up live by default. The "On Demand" section where I find the replays of games is literally right next to the "Related Videos" section which has highlights and spoilers (e.g., I went to watch Rangers-Preds and the recommended video right next to it was "Goodrow's first goal seals the game for the Ranger". FFS)

The in-game experience is terrible too, outside of desktop. On PS4 & XBOX, there's no 15-second skip ahead/skip behind. The fast-forward's slowest speed is a minute of video time per second in real time, so it's really hard to skip the 20 seconds between whistle and faceoff. The playback has been absurdly buggy too, I was watching the game just fine tonight and then at the 10 minute mark of the 3rd period (still 1-1), it without warning skipped to the final whistle.

I'm already sick and tired of this. NHL.tv, for all its faults, did a wonderful job in making the experience great and easy to use. How ESPN - a network literally catered to sports fans - hasn't figured this shit out is beyond me.

No post game either.

I hope they sort it out... I mean just go 30 mins on either side of the game... Shouldn't be that difficult.

It's probably in conflict with local programming rights, etc...

NHL.TV was the same shit - no pre or post game. I mean, you sometimes got lucky and got a little here and there but mostly no.

I was afraid that ESPN+ would just end up being what it was in preseason and there's really no reason to think it's going to change. I almost always watch(ed) the games delayed because I'm spending time with the kids etc... until 8:30ish every night. Now I have to watch everything in progress or start to watch it and pause it until I can come back and hour or two later. It's a pain in the ass.

That's odd because I always had the pre/post game... I'm not in market (Orlando, FL) but never had an issue with those things... always with the NHL Network games obv & sometimes you were only allowed the home or away feed and not both but otherwise it was spot on.

Weird for sure. It's not like your "home" team (Tampa) is different than mine so I'm not sure what the difference would be. When home, I'd put the game on early and it's be the standard "commercial" screen where they're showing the ice being painted etc.... and after the game was over I'd sometimes get a minute or two of the post game and then it was over. IDK.
