NHL.TV / Center Ice / ESPN+ Discussion - Part IV [See the warning in OP]

Last night my EPSN app (Roku) was terribly slow to open. Went thru the full re-install / update process 3 times without much improvement. Very frustrating when switching around to other games. Had been working great over the past 3 yrs.

if a game appears on the NHL network, espn+ will blackout that game?
Yes. Also TNT and ESPN main network games too. I went to watch the Oiler St Louis game on Wednesday and was going crazy wondering what was going on when it wasn’t showing up.

This wholestreaming issue for the NHL is effed up.

I had to laugh, I listened to the interview that 32Thoughts had with Steve Mayer, the NHL Sr VP and Content Officer this week. Towards the end he mentioned that they are looking to how the new generation is wanting to consume their live sports and he said they are wanting it on their laptop and phones!! Really Steve?? You and the other tall foreheads at the NHL just learned this? Oh and it’s not just the younger generations, I’m 58, I want it that way too and maybe I’m being picky but I also want it to work and we’ve wanted it that way for the past 5plus years or more.

What you have right now is archaic to say the least. What a bunch of amateurs.

So there is no NHL.tv app for PS4 or Android TV?
The NHL App is still there on both, but no updates anymore, can't watch anything. What a huge BS this year, how desastrous can you organize a freakin' update my gosh....

Was watching the oilers Vs hawks last night on NHL.tv on pc. I started the game about 30 minutes after puck drop. Managed to drag the slider to the beginning of the feed without seeing the score. At around the 10m mark of the first, an ad appeared for about 30s. The play was still going on and I missed the first Oiler goal. Not sure how they dropped some random ad over live play.

Also, the quality of video throughout was horrible.

I still haven't received any email responses to any of complaints, not even generic email.

Nothing is improving.

I guess it wasn't just me, then. I seem to recall this happening at some point last year, but this time it lasted a few days. Doing much better today, thankfully.

I'm also really pleased that ESPN+ is now including pre- and post-game shows for more broadcasts than last year (specifically the NBC Sports regional feeds) and on top of that, the past few days I've seen that for replays they've included the post-game shows for a variety of broadcasts. Not only is it nice to have the option to watch that, but the added time on the end makes it harder to be spoiled by the time bar when fast-forwarding (because previously you know that a game lasting 2:32, for instance, will end in regulation, and one that lasts 2:57 will be ending in OT or most likely a shootout). Here's hoping these new changes continue!

Go figure...last night the ESPN app was working great. Concur with your comments about pre-/post-game shows, etc.

New one with NHL TV last night with the Avalanche/Devils game - The full broadcast was there. Pre-game, post-game, every break and intermission. They also mixed them up on the schedule, the home link gave you the away feed. Still, progress!

Yes, for me this is now a way better products than it used to be. Especially the post game shows are important, since you can't guess from the length of the timeline if there's a OT period or not. Errors are getting less and less, great work all in all. And VPN works as well, so... :-)

Tech help request.

Can someone set up a multiview tab in chrome and then cast the entire tab to a chromecast device. Do all 4 feeds show up or is the bottom right just black?

I'm in the UK and have been using ESPN+ with SmartDNS to watch the Leafs games so far this season (I've always used NHL.TV previously). With last nights LA game being shown on the NHL Network in the US (so no live or replay option on ESPN+) I'm thinking about a move back to NHL.TV with the hope that the service improvements I've seen mentioned continue.

Is anyone using NHL.TV with SmartDNS for local blackout games (e.g. Premier Sport in the UK), or is a VPN required for this? Thank you!

I don't know if the blackouts still apply for NHL TV. Last week two Avalanche games were on Premier Sports and they were available the morning after on NHL TV, which they weren't before this season. I'd imagine live might be different, but that's my experience so far. I just tried a game there using a VPN and it loaded fine, so that should work too. Portugal has always been my go-to location for this sort of thing.

In other news, last night's Avalanche/Islanders game replay skipped the first period. Half an hour of pre-game, then straight to the first intermission. I switched to the home broadcast and when it reached the same cut off time it switched to the away feed. I don't even know how this shit is possible.

Thanks for that - having the games available next day would cover 90% of my watching habits.

The ongoing issues you’re seeing with the skipping to random points - is this in the App, on the website, or both?

Desktop. I know there are a few other people on here who've had that problem but I don't know what they're watching on.

Long-time international subscriber to nhl.tv

The new app is downright shameful.

- can't have it begin "in progess" games from the start by default (spoiler alert!)
- max 720p on a M1 Max Macbook Pro??
- constantly have to re-login in, even after just a few minutes.

And now, despite being logged in, I can't access any games since approx 1 week. I have an active subscription, am logged in, but the app tells me I need to buy a subscription anytime I try to watch a game now. Have tried to get help from support, but have only received standard auto responses...

The NHL should be embarrassed by this app.

But you can watch a game from the beginning manually? I would be very happy if this was possible (at the risk of spoiler when starting the stream).

So far, this has not worked for me in the iPad app at all. No option there to go back to the start of the stream, not even manually, if the game is already in progress.

On which platform have you been able to go back to the start of the game manually? On the desktop/on your MacBook?

(I only have Windows PCs, but if it works for you on the MacBook, it should also work on any Windows PC.)

As to the being logged out constantly and unable to launch any streams now, have you tried clearing your browser cache, or simply a different browser?

Cleared cache, tried different browser, and a different device (my iphone). No luck. Seems to me that something is messed on their end (not recognizing my subscription for some reason???)

Previously, when the app was "working" I was able to rewind back to the start of games on my macbook. Saw the score though a couple of times, which is beyond annoying.

NHL dropped the ball on this. Honestly, at this point, I'm ready to just say "f' it"

I watch on my windows laptop since there still is no Android TV app. I have scores turned off in the settings. When I click a feed, before it loads and the game starts "in progress", I scroll my page down to the very bottom. Doing so cuts off most of the game feed. I hover the video player and the time bar is there. I use the time bar to go back to the start.

Note: You may not be able to drag or click at the beginning of the time bar. It may not work by dragging/clicking right at the start as there may be a 2hr time bar but only 30 minutes of video. So, click backward, let it load, try further back, let it load...etc until you get to the start of the game you want to watch.

In case I'm not explaining well, an example. Last week I started the Oilers/Blues game about 30 minutes late. Scrolled down to make sure I don't see the score (Rogers has the score and time clock at the top of the screen), then clicked the start of the time bar. Didn't work. Dragged to the start, Didn't work. Finally had someone else check the game time. It was only 7 minutes into the game and I was trying to go back about 90-120 minutes. Instead I went back 30 minutes and that's where I found the start of the video/game and started watching from there.

That's just terrific – exactly what you'd expect from a subscription streaming service in 2022.

I hope that the genius who came up with the idea to destroy the previous (main) NHL app where everything was working fine, received a nice promotion.

Thanks for the advice, in any case! :thumbu: This is going to be even tougher for me because I'm an LA Kings fan, and Bally Sports West displays the score at the bottom of the screen when the game is already in progress.

But there's also this:

I swear at the NHL, sending them all to hell, every single morning when watching the individual goal highlights in the main NHL app.

 Why the **** do you keep showing me the same ****ing 15-second ad before each and every goal highlight when I'm already your paying subscriber ???!!!

The NYI vs CHI streams aren't working for me. Other games are. Can someone confirm if it's just me or the stream is down?

was working for entire game for me (msg -isles feed), sn now premium app on firestick

this was actually the clearest quality stream of the season so far.

I think the problem was that the game wasn't initiating the stream until the game started. It gives an error whereas the older version of NHLTV (previous years), just said "The Game Hasn't Started Yet"...instead it gives something like "stream error"...it looks like a 404 page.
