NHL.TV / Center Ice / ESPN+ Discussion - Part IV [See the warning in OP]

Looks like I have to get the ESPN+ app even though I have Direct TV NHL Centre Ice. Really miss the simplicity of last couple of years - on TV just switch to the channel I want to watch. Now I gotta figure out if it's exclusive and if I want to channel surf games I can't get to the app games quickly - plus the lag. And there was simplicity in getting to NHL.TV when I wanted to watch when I was away from home. Now I have to hop into different apps for ESPN or TNT - wait for the stupid thing to update and then hope it didn't forget my login. And I don't know what people who don't have a good internet connection do to watch games outside of DirectTV - I guess you are unlucky for some 75+ games.

So I guess I'm off to add to my hockey bill and download the ESPN+ app so I can watch my Avs tonight. Wait till I have to explain to my wife how this "works" on our bills and why I have to buy ESPN also. I can already hear - "Don't you already pay for this on Centre Ice?"

Why would tonight's Avs game not be shown on your Center Ice pkg? If it's because the Avs game is in your market area, I believe that same rule would also block you from getting the Avs game on ESPN+.

Tonight is ESPN+ exclusive. They get a block of games per year that can only be seen on the ESPN+/Hulu package.

The lack of an app for my smart tv and Apple TV is annoying. Streaming from my phone to my tv is pretty bad for the first minute or so and the stream gets interrupted once or twice per match, with the app on my phone telling me 'the game is temporarily not available', after refreshing it is a bit of a lottery wether the stream resumes at the same spot it got stopped.

You do not have an ESPN app? That seems odd.

I'm in Georgia - it's excluded from Center Ice there are 75 games "exclusive" to ESPN+. It's like when ESPN has a game - It's not on Center Ice

There are apps for mobile and tablet. But the ones for Apple TV for example can be installed, but cannot be used.

Now watching the ESPN+-game between Washington and Colorado and the weird thing is that we get no pre game or intermission coverage. Even when the commentators are 'throwing it to Linda' we just get a bit of silence followed by the commentators responding to what supposedly just been said. That is weird since this is basically ESPN themselves.

FWIW: It looks like the live games shown exclusively on the NHL Network are made available for replay 24hrs later on ESPN+.
Well crap...it now looks like it can be anywhere from 24 to 48 hrs later on ESPN+. Monday's Blues/Yotes game was available 24 hrs later, but Monday's Rangers/Leafs game was not made available until 48hrs later. NHL replays: so easy, a caveman can do it...guess not.

watched games on espn+ app on xbox this weekend. quality was pretty good. last night i decided to do the 4 in 1 thing and have 4 simultaneous feeds. It struggled a bit for the first 2-3 min (although not horribly), but i was impressed how well that worked. Switching between games was super smooth too. My first impressions of the espn+ change vs nhl.tv is immensely positive so far (although I did not like nhl.tv at all), especially since I already had disney+ and hulu, so it's essentially free for me.

I'm in Canada trying to watch the bruins/flyers game right now and it says I'm blacked out bc it's being nationally televised... On TnT in the US. Wtf is that all about? It's not being televised nationally in Canada so there's absolutely no reason for the blackout here.

This pathetic league can't do anything right. Can these players please go play elsewhere so we can abondon these jokers once and for all?

It must be because it’s on Sportsnet One, which picks up the TNT feed.

It is on SN1, but that's not considered a national broadcast. I watched a game the other night off NHL.tv which was also being broadcast on SN1 with no issues.

Interesting. Now that you mentioned it, I do remember a game on SN that was also available on NHL Live in the last few days. Not sure why tonight’s game would be blacked out.

I'm sorry if this has been covered somewhere earlier, but I am an international (Korea) NHL.TV subscriber. I can watch the games on my laptop, but if I try to watch via my phone, I get redirected to the ESPN app and it says it can only be used in the US.

Does anyone else have this problem and/or a fix to this?

I had center ice through Bell Canada and when u.s verses u.s matchup was on SN 1 or SN 360 it wouldnt be available on center ice . I had to add SN1 to my package a few years ago because they kept on airing islander games out of the blue on sn1 or sn 360 . So , yes ....sn 1 is indeed considered a national channel in canada

I now have nhl tv canada and the espn and tnt game were available so thats an upgrade over center ice through bell

I can understand how SN1 might be considered national, except that I was able to watch a game on NHL.TV earlier this season that was also being broadcast on SN1. Same in seasons past. Yesterday's blackout was a mistake.

Wednesday, Saturday and Sundays are National games, so you would need to watch on Sportsnet one for that game.

Going to keep an eye specifically on this during the season. I know for a fact that I've watched games on NHL.TV that were being broadcast on SN1, since I've never subscribed to that channel. Guaranteed been able to watch on Wed/Sundays. Can't speak for Saturdays as I always watch on CBC.

yes , its right there in the explanation of whats available on nhl tv canada version . nationally televised games are included . So the sn1 and in my case , sn 360 games that werent available to me via bell center ice because they were deemed national are available on nhl tv canada so far . The espn and tnt games are also available without any type of sportsnet interference (simsubbing)

Sorry if this has been discussed already.

In past years, centerice subscribers could log into nhltv/gamecenter using the cable subscription credentials.

Does anyone know if that arrangement carries over to being able to watch NHL on ESPN+? I'm assuming no but thought I'd ask.

At least centerice is also down to $70 this year so centerice plus 6 months or so of ESPN+ is still less than center ice has been in the past...

Yeah I'm in the UK and have the same issue. The android tv app works fine but phone app always directs to ESPN+ and asks me to sign up to anew subscription.

No idea why it is happening. I've emailed NHL.tv but don't really expect a reply

I really do love Multi-Cast on the Apple TV. I have a 65 inch TV and I'm currently watching 4 games at once and it's stable and clear. NHL.TV didn't have this.

The espn app sucks on Xbox. Tons of errors having to restart. It doesn't seem like they broadcast every game either. Step down from nhl tv.
