NHL trade deadline thread (2025)

I'll believe we're a cap retention broker when I see it. We've been in that position for YEARS and haven't done a damned thing.

I was thinking if they can move Joki out then the real dollars they had allocated toward his salary might be the path so that they aren't asking Terry Gasbucks for anything additional. Granted, they may have already factored he would be gone at the deadline into their real dollar calculations.

I mean…it’s telling that they haven’t retained on anyone they sent out for years isn’t it?

You’re already saving money by trading the player. They weren’t even allowed to save slightly less of it to up a return

Did I miss some news..?

For reference, personally, 7/1/07 fits the description of "beyond a dark day."
Zucker likely gone, Peterka might want out, players are worn down, Adams is scared. Dreger implied that teams aren’t giving him any serious offers. Lance admits that Pegula is intentionally not spending, Bove says no press conference planned for trade deadline day.

Paraphrasing Freidman... there is trauma from years loosing in the locker room, 14 years of no playoffs, with Peterka being the latest who does not want to be there (me: likely has told the Sabres he will not extend). If someone has the link/audio please post. Tx

Sabres not interested in futures, draft picks, prospects, just hockey trades. (Me: Hockey trades at the deadline are rare.)

No Sabres press conference scheduled for the post deadline Friday per Lance. I think the Sabres press corp is ready to go to war on Pegula/KA. They need to get the National/Canadian press on board, embarrass him, and get him out of here!

Did Friedman explicitly say Peterka wants out?

Its so disgusting what Pegula and to an extent Adams did to this franchise. 5 years of team building and we have guys like Gilbert and Bryson getting 50-60 games and no partner for Power.

Teams everywhere making trades to improve their rosters.

How long before Power, Dahlin and Byram want out? Adams needs to go.

Pegula will spend a little over the cap and mandate restrictions that keep the team from being a contender and making any money. But he won't spend closer to the cap to actually make the first 70 mil he's spending worth a damn. Some past trauma of spending that didn't pan out, and managers that didn't know how to build a team anyway, so now he's just completely shut down into a "least risk possible" mindset. The franchise under him is farking toast, and KA can't get action because the team has become nothing but chum in the water for other clubs that actually know what they're doing, know Buffalo is desperate, and are just waiting for another dumb decision to take advantage of. The Sabres aren't even a little dog anymore...they're a chew toy.

Is Friedman implying:

A) They do not want to pay other young players (Peterka) because of mistakes on others in the past?

B) Also says they are scared of loosing other players (like Eichel, Reinhart, O'Reilly) who go on to success.

So WTF ?

I didn't listen to the podcast but If "they" are scared to pay young players because of mistakes of paying other young players.......

They has to = terry pegula, right

And if they = Terry, then terry isnt a fan of how Adams is doing things. So insto facto kevyn Adams is gonzo after this season

I'm jumping to conclusions but I gotta be somewhat close... Right......please

Well, if you're afraid to pay young players, there are bridge deals, or go and get proven top 6 and top 4 players, or other relatively young players with other contracts.

They handed Cozens, Samuelsson, and Power money and term. I can see why they aren't in a situation where they want to hand out another 7 or 8 year deal. Or maybe they don't want Adams signing anyone long-term right now (for good reason).

I would assume that the oft-scratched Lafferty would be an in-demand player for most teams, and NAK might get some interest though his status having played more than 10 games in Rochester would mean he'll have to pass through waivers to come up. Wouldn't surprise me if he's among the rash of folks on the wire the day of the deadline.

That's a very Terry thing - every time he makes an error, it is departed from and not repeated which just boxes them in further and further.

I thought they did away with re-entry waivers:

I cued up the y/t link to the Sabres part

Peterka was being discussed and he was the segue into the part about "players tired of losing, etc". But I don't think those comments were necessarily about him and were more about the player base in general.
