We know they wanted 20-25 young roster player, top prospect + 1st. That sounds reasonable to me for Kesler. The best offer we have heard was Sutter + Despres + 1st. Given this information, I think it's pretty easy to lean towards them not getting enough rather than them being too greedy or whatever else.

Slight correction: The best open ended offer was: Stepan + Miller + 1st. With Kesler vetoing NYR, that PIT offer seemed the best. And yes, that's not enough.

Fair enough, though Kassian *is* still in the Canucks' lineup and look to be part of the long-term future of the club. You're just arguing semantics by saying it's not the same thing - it is, at least from my perspective.

Loving Kassian too, the kid is like the only guy providing offense and he is playing with Booth and Richardson. He easily would've had 10-20 more points if he was played on the PP and played full time with Kes for the last 20 or so games.

I don't believe that was the best offer, but since it was the only one reported publicly I guess its all we can go on....and if thats the best offer he was smart to say no IMO....but again, I don't believe its the best offer made. Regardless, I still have very little faith in Gillis to make a good deal even if he made the smart move today...mostly because I have no idea what his vision is going forward, or how quickly the wind will change it.

Make my day.
Would've been pissed if we took that offer. Sutter at best will be a lower end 2nd line C. Despres at best will be a top4 D (big whoop) and the only bright spot is the 1st round pick which will probably be a late pick.

Same, just not enough there to build around unless you get a 1 in 20 shot of getting a great player with a late pick. A couple of guys you can get elsewhere is not enough.

According to who? The fact is that no one really knows what Gillis was offered, or if the rumours of ownership intervening have any credibility.

According to Gillis. Also, rumours are rumours, not fact. You don't know if the ownership intervened in which way, do you? So why assume they intervened in a way to nix a deal? Perhaps they were looking to get a deal done but Gillis found that the asking price wasn't being returned.

The fact that you know it's a fact that you don't know what Gillis was offered, makes it laughable that you'd then assume that ownership intervened or interfered for or against offers for Kesler.

I have no problem with humor, but it does not reflect well when jokes are being made publicly by players about your gm failing to trade you.

Just my opinion, and im not a huge gillis fan either.

Fair enough. But both Kesler and Luongo found it humourous, and nothing's suggested that management had a problem with one player bantering with another one in an obviously tongue-in-cheek manner.

Knowing that? It would have been stupid....However, I don't know that....I know thats been said by Gillis, but none of us know the actual deals on the table, do we?

If the deal was outstanding what makes you assume that management or ownership wouldn't have jumped on it, considering all the offers they were fielding?

If Gillis is lying, don't you think that another team could easily make it known, unofficially, what the outstanding offer was, that he turned down?

What reason would Gillis have to lie about? And what reason would ownership nix a deal that they couldn't refuse??

It doesn't make sense. What makes more sense is that fans out there are looking for answers but don't want to accept the reality that there was no offer good enough for Kesler, and that's why he remains. I know that sounds logical and boring, but it rings more true than all the other flights of fancy being forwarded by all the emo Canuck fans/media personalities.

came out and just tweeted this with an umbrella emoji
RT @Ryan_Kesler: "Told you so" - @strombone1 ☔

also listen to his radio interview http://www.teamradio.ca/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Kesler-nice-to-get-past-deadline.mp3

hes continually lying about his trade request "Im happy Ima Canuck" **** off you can't play that strombone1 **** here and try to mock the GM/organization when you're still here. He hasn't handled this anywhere close to like Luongo did.

How do you know he's 'lying'?? Are you psychic? You can read people's minds?

I think you're just upset. Maybe calm down a little and carry on being a 'fan'.

I really wish Dreger would put his money where his mouth is and give some details on these "very good offers" the Canucks had for Kesler.

I don't know why I would expect anything better from that clown.

I wish he would too. At least we could judge these 'very good offers'. I doubt he will though. It's easier to drive-by troll than to put your reputation on the line by stating what you know, ironically. It's not like he's beholden to the Canucks organization.

How did I assume that ownership had intervened? I simply mentioned that there were rumors out there that ownership had become involved. Seems like you are being a little over-dramatic here.

Which is all the more ironic considering you were the one making definitive statements claiming that "the value wasn't there to help the team long-term", like you were sitting next to Mike Gillis in the war room.
