Well this sucks
I think it’s the latterI don't get this unless there is already a trade in the queue that has not been announced. Or if Tarasenko's shoulder is completely shot and no one will trade for him.
Weber is likely to miss all of next season.Kotkaniemi is the one I’d target in a Kuznetsov trade. I think he’s about to put it all together and when he does I think he’s bound to hit Barkov territory.
Heck why not make it Kotkaniemi + Weber for Kuznetsov + Schultz. And then go hard after Suter to pair them back together. Or Suter - Carlson, Orlov - Weber.

Would think Poile's days are numbered as well.
So they had interested teams and just didn’t trade him?
I imagine there’s more to the story, otherwise I can’t believe they protected Ivan Barbashev over Tarasenko.

Bad. Kaprizov is legit but not what the Caps need. If they flip him right after for a better fit then it's another story.
I said Kaprizov is indeed legit, what's your problem?you’re nuts. Kaprizov is legit, take him no doubt.
What. The. Hell.
This is the craziest expansion draft ever

Any time you can sign an unproductive 4th liner carried by better line mates on a historically good team to a six year deal you gotta do it.
I believe I read at the time that he was offered a few multiyear deals (but more in the ballpark of 2-3 years and nothing like this one) but chose to bet on himself and come back on another one year deal to try and really cash in. Whoops. It amazes me that DSP didn't parlay his 2018 postseason into a deal like this one.
