I mean, according to posters here, Kucherov wouldn’t even be an all star on the Caps. Why is it such a big deal that the Lightning have him over the cap. :sarcasm:
Settle down Queen Bee. One single poster was claiming Kucherov wouldn’t have developed so well on the Caps. And that poster was alone in their commentary.

but by all means, keep up the hyperbole, it makes you look really good!

Low AAV. It’s how the Caps operate as well.
Uhhh, no? Nicklas Backstrom is the first player in franchise history to receive a full NMC. The Capitals have historical avoided NMCs rather than using them as a tool to depress AAV, and especially on longer contracts (where they limit the yearly scope of partial NTCs as well).

RNH is a fine player and it’s probably a fine deal with Edmonton. I just meant to say that he’s not the type of player Washington needs to be targeting this offseason to replace Kuznetsov.

I think we need to completely erase the idea that in any Kuzy transaction, we'd be getting back a better player. We may find a player who is a small downgrade to this inconsistent Kuzy. Metaphysical zero chance we will get back someone who is at Kuzy Conn Smythe level, its just not happening. If we deal Kuzy, it will be a net loss in terms of talent, spun as "addition by subtraction" or "no more drama", but I can't see any scenario where any team trades us an equal talent unless we throw in a ton of assets that we can't afford to part with.

Might just have to accept that Kuzy will be a Cap next year, and they will continue to try to figure out how to motivate him. Try being the operative word.

Kuznetsov might get traded ala Vrana. Everyone is going to have a sigh of relief that he's gone at first and then you look at his replacement and start asking yourself what in the hell that trade was all about..

Buffalo wants a top 10 pick. This year. So we cannot be involved w them.

who is a good player that the Caps could try and acquire, using Kuznetsov plus something? Plus meaning Alexeyev or Protas.

I’d wager that CMM, HP, and MF are off limits?

I can only imagine the whining round here post-trade when he decides to try hard that first year (I’m fully expecting him to put up a nice bounce back season, then who knows)….it will make all previous bitching pale in comparison IMO.

Vrana kinda lit it up after the trade too and I could care less really. He was that annoying here. It's all about whom they get back.

Don't think any of the prospects should be off limits. Just depends on what the Caps are offered for them..

This just begs the question, go for it all in 100% while Ovi and Backie are still on the team, or maintain some semblance of thought to the future without them? I think the Caps approach has been to go for it, but another flameout like this last one and I could see that changing next offseason. For now I think all the (handful) prospects stay.

In other words, I think they have an eye on the rebuild that is coming inevitably soon. Probably starting next year, not this year.

I don't know most of the people here thinks Ted is going to keep going for it until Ovechkin's wheels come off. Rebuild definitely isn't the worst idea with this roster imo.

I'm pretty sure Both Ted and GMBM have both said as much - They'd be going for it each year until he's no longer on the roster that is.

I dont think the Caps have ever been a go for broke team. If McMichael and Lapierre are legit and Fehervary and AA are top 4 defensemen and one of Vanecek or Samsonov is legit, the Caps can remain competitive. If they went for broke they would have spent those guys
