League News: NHL Talk - (News n' Scores n' Stuff) | 2024-25 Summer Edition

IDK I think the team is pretty poorly constructed and he honestly did well to get them to where they were last year (much like he did with the Caps his first season!). Will have to wait to see how things shake out with NYR to see how much of the blame this year is on him, but I don't really think this is a primarily Lavi issue.

That being said, L M A O to the complete tire-fire that the Rags are right now -- couldn't happen to a more deserving franchise!
Their roster is worse than last year for sure, largely in part to having to pay Laf, but let’s not forget they have some very, very good players in their prime.

Shesty is arguable the best goalie in the league, Fox is a former norris trophy winner and a legit #1 D, Panarin is a superstar, Kreider is a 35-40 goal guy, Zibanejad is a solid top 6 center. A lot of those guys are underperforming big time this year.

Fox doesn’t have a goal this year but had 17 last year. Kreider is on pace to score 35-40 again but doesn’t have a single assist. Zibanejad is getting dragged for poor play by rangers fans everywhere. Shesterkin is having the worst season of his career. Trocheks numbers are back to earth. Why are these guys all of a sudden just bad?

If the room went bad due to poor Sr Leadership….seems easier to explain.

Trouba and Kreider both on the block says something…the room could be fractured….cliquey….

Watching the Rangers fans melt down is some good entertainment. They really think Trouba has trade value. And all these teams have room for a 8 mill cap hit slow bad defender hit that just got cut from a contender.

And their top goalie is a FA this offseason and turned down contract offers from the Rangers.

Rangers might have a much different roster next season.

add BOS to that list too...

who had WSH leading the East 25 gms in on their bingo card with BOS and NYR falling heavily and PIT in shambles (tho' PIT's W4 has got them in mid-limbo now)

Enjoying the timeline rn
I think we all had PIT in shambles. Their off-season was laughably ineffective and they were already a bad team.

Boston's been playing on borrowed time for years.

The rest? Big surprises to me. I sure wasn't expecting the NYR drop off or the Caps leading the East.

I figured NYR 114pts last year to like 106 this year and
BOS 109 last year to like 102 instead of the 91/92 pt paces of NYR at 27 in 24gms and BOS at 31 in 28gms

and Caps was the biggest unknown, was figuring a rough starting 15gms then finally finding footing to look like a WC1 type of season with maybe 3rd if things clicked pretty good

And just like that NYR gets out of the Trouba contract for free

Holy f*** what is Pat Verbeek doing, taking that entire contract on and actually paying for the 'privilege'?

And selfishly of course, damn him for naming out the Rangers as far as cap space.

Pat Verbeek is very big on toughness. I'm actually not surprised he took the contract.

Trouba has next year left on the deal and the cap is rumored to rise more than the original projections indicated. Plus Anaheim has a ton of cap space and I’m sure they will value whatever leadership Trouba brings to the table while fielding mostly a younger team.

Igor 8x11.5M. Pretty good day for Drury considering. Definitely helps that there are always willing suckers out there...

And yet they still probably need to move out Kreider and probably Zibanejad. Miller doesn't seem to be progressing either. Maybe now Schneider takes a leap forward. We'll see. Plenty to come but that's a team that likely remains off structurally. It's still all about Igor carrying them and special teams.

Man, that's a lot of money and term for a goalie.

Holy crap?! Odds he makes it all 8 years….?

Now they can rename the team the Anaheim Mighty Elbows

Hard to believe this isn't going to blow up in their faces. Igor still needs a contract. What sort of environment are they creating? Drury should be on thin ice.

lol I might have to tune into the next ducks-nyr game. Rangers will have their head on a swivel for sure
