When it comes to blowing leads, PIT can't be... beat? LOL

PIT up 1-0 at home over LAK for majority of game til 6m left
then give up a SHG with 3m left to blow it 2-1

what a going away party for Jagr

losers of 4 of last 5 (managed to beat CHI tho' )
And that SHG was sprung from a pass intended for Matty Phillips, who is apparently on their PP2.

Hard to say it was his fault or anything, just surprised to hear his name. He had a golden opportunity to score that he passed up just before too.

Jagr can eat a bag of…

Rooting for the Caps to win games has felt stale lately but rooting for the Pens to lose still leaves me satisfied.

edit: If they lose their way into getting their 1st back that would be watching them lose too much

Think about how rough our season has been, then look at PIT's near-identical record and how they've brought in the 11M man in EK65 and his historical 101 pts from last year and he's at 38 pts in 52gms (with the grand total of 1 goal since November)
May the keep HC Sullivan forever!

I was so happy when they brought in Dubas. I was very familiar with his “fine” work for the Leafs.

Never gets stale watching the Caps win, I’m just not so disappointed when they lose.

Makes you feel better about our front office which i feel i am constantly defending.

I get why we retooled for OVI. Players just fell off but the strategy wasn’t good. We started getting younger two years ago. Made several moves last year to get more picks. Picked up some value contracts. Hopefully we can do the same this year. Bring 2-4 more guys up from Hershey/college and sign 1 or 2 notable free agents and we are playoff potential again.

For all the crap that Sharks took from that trade during the summer, it's going to make the following months and possibly next season a very exciting one for the fans. They are looking at a very nice scenario of either snatching a ~11-15 pick from the Penguins this summer, which would give them a really nice piece to go with their own top-5 pick, or if the Penguins pick gets moved to next summer, they maybe looking at 2 top-10 picks for the 2025 draft. Penguins are already garbage with Crosby playing really well. They are going to be even worse next season when their team is another year older and potentially missing Guentzel too. I wouldn't rule out a top-5 pick if they ran into injury issues next season.

Ya even if the Penguins keep their pick this year it’s a huge risk next year. Their old core is keeping them from being a bottom 5 team and it will be one year older. The core is also extremely injury prone and have been fortunate this year to have no injuries.

There is no good reason for the Penguins power play to be as bad as it is. I guess Todd Reirden is a saboteur?

Regardless they should be going all-in while Crosby is still playing at this level. While the Karlsson trade was a worthwhile swing the complete lack of action from Dubas all season is mystifying. They probably should have fired Sullivan by now and maybe tried to bring in a good winger or something.

Carrying an old and declining team takes it's toll on players too, not just physically but mentally too... Crosby will eventually regress but i wouldn't be shocked if he was still pretty good next season, like Ovechkin was last season. But his numbers are going to take a hit if Guentzel leaves. Their bigger problems are propably rest of the old core. Karlsson, Letang and Malkin have all shown signs of regression already this season, and you'd think that it's only going to get worse. Especially Malkin who turns 38 in the summer and Letang who turns 37 soon.

It would be curious to know how their own fans feel about that pick. They must know they are boned either way, but would you rather tank and hope you fall to ~9-10 range so that you can keep that pick or just take the hit now and try to make the Playoffs knowing you'll likely have to give away top-15 pick to save your 2025 1st.

It would be entertaining to follow the Penguins next season if their 1st rounder belonged to the Sharks. They are right there in the same tier as the Capitals next season and i would be absolutely terrified if we didn't have our own 1st rounder.

Good point. Atleast when you are terrible the draft is something to look forward to as well.

It is entirely possible next years pick is in the top 5.

If I were a Pens fan, I would hope they give up this years first. Too much weight to carry next year, when this group is another year older.

Jeezus the Oil. Sleepwalking thru a 1 goal deficit to the Coyotes into the 3rd, and then, bam, they score 3 goals in 2 minutes. It’s a bit reminiscent of the 80s Oilers teams - there’s a gear they can get to that other teams cant match

Random fact from ESPN after wild/Canucks game
Minnesota's six scores in a span of 5:45 was the fastest such flurry in the NHL in 25 years, since Washington had six goals in 4:47 in a game Feb. 3, 1999.

+ Sens win
+ Wings/Kraken 3-point game
+ Wild win
+ Flames win
- Sabres lost (lol)
- Coyotes lost (10 in a row)
- Blues lost

Decent day for the red tank.

Poor day for the Devils and Pens. They are now 4 and 9 points out of the last WC spot.
