Meh. Ted probably had a war chest for the VA move lying around and when that deal went *poof* someone whispered in his ear "buy capfriendly".

Then that person logged in to HF Caps and began making trade offers involving Tom Wilson.

With all the keyboard pounding surrounding CF… it makes me wonder how a hockey/Caps fan survived when guys named Fay, or Fachet, were the only sources? In a media format that came out once a day?? The horror!

I guess one could dial up 202-362-4444 and go to town on the touch tones?

I can’t tell if you’re serious or not but since I’m in the middle of a career change working from home sounds more and more appealing for those exact reasons. I used to get a side eye for having to leave work early sometimes for a dentist appointment, it was really aggravating and killed motivation to work for that company.

Yeah I'm very serious.

Another thing I forgot to mention is that if you're sick you have to take PTO if you work an in-person job. But if you're WFH then you can often work through illness if it's a minor ailment. You can do laundry, clean, cook/prep, etc. A million reasons why I would never consider working in an office unless they blew my socks off with an offer.

Anyways hockey.

Counterpoint: WFH means "no boundaries" to a lot of people and you end up working 24/7 in some cases.

There's also the issue with running out of room for all your saved piss bottles, and typing acairutely as your fingernails and toenails grow to their maximum lenth.

Piss bottles aside... 🤮

It definitely took me a while to learn how to keep a basic schedule at home, especially not working all the time. But the flip side is that when you actually need to work late or weekends, it's easier, and you can get up, work for a couple of hours, and then shower etc. It's just less regimented and that works for a lot of people.

For me, I really struggled to get to work on time when I worked in an office. I'm not a morning person and I was late, tired, and inefficient. WFH let me do my best work.

That’s where the discipline comes in, get your stuff done and if your employer takes advantage of you because you work remote, move on.

The best part in a remote scenario, you get to set those boundaries…..some businesses or roles may have core hours, but I’ve come to expect that if I’m on top of communications, it’s a non-issue.

People can be angry at Ted all they want, who cares. As @HTFN points out, there was obviously competition for the purchase of CF. If you're the owner of CF, who would you rather work for? A crappy pizza merchant, an oil tycoon, or the guy who basically helped build the internet into what it is, the guy who has owned multiple content, access and media companies, who also just happens to be ultra loyal to a fault.

CF got lucky the Caps were interested, this is their best possible scenario. Fans will adapt and find alternative sources. Need/demand always dictates supply. The gap will be filled.

I guess I'm one of the few fans that don't care. Someone made a great tool program and sold it for profit. I say good for them and hope it encourages folks with talented skills to do the same. This also opens room for alternative options, perhaps better.

I grew up in the country and I remember getting the Hockey News and Digest with month old trade rumors and posted lineups. I do remember some of the call lines from HTS over the Dish. CBC didn't have the trade rumor section then and other alternatives for hockey stuff were the Midwest Sports Channel.

I never heard of the site Cap Friendly, as a long time NHL fan. Rival teams are just jumping on the opportunity to post hateful comments even though it's their first time hearing of the site (very likely), when there is copy cat sites like it. This is just dumb. Ted Leonsis can do what he wants.

I'm surprised there's people on HFBoards that haven't heard of CF. I would guess that of the two, CF gets more traffic. Just as a comparison, there's 13 posts on the trades board here with comments in the last hour. On the Armchair GM forum on CF, there's 73. That might be a slight uptick because of the news, but I think that's pretty typical for this time of year. Its got some pretty awesome tools for fans and while I'm not gonna rail against the Caps for buying it, I'm definitely gonna miss it.

You don't get what the outrage is about? Capfriendly is going offline in a few weeks & you estimate there won't be an alternative until well after the season begins. That could mean upwards of 6 months without a viable alternative. A lot of people (including myself) have multiple rosters set-up on Capfriendly, rely on it for hockey pools and that's all gone now. It's a massive inconvenience that did not exist one day ago.
