Just saw the hit. Shoulder to shoulder from the angle I saw, but late. Interference or roughing maybe at worst. JP hit his head on the ice with a sideways whipping motion after being knocked off his skates, which is what did the most damage.

Should not be a suspension imo and all the media crying for blood should just buckle up for playoff hockey.

Idk that it’s even really late at full speed it’s playoff hockey every hit is finished if they say this is late a whole lotta interference calls will need to be made.

Garbage hit but it's not enough for a major or a suspension.

Tough loss for the Stars to start the Playoffs.

Over/under 2.5 GA for sammy tonight

I'm picking the over
Tampa takes G1, panic ensues in Leafs Land. Leafs win three straight then lose G5 setting up an epic G6 that Toronto desperately wants to win so they can avoid another G7.

I think Toronto takes it in six. And just to post my other predictions:

Avs, Stars, Jets, Oilers, Bruins, Maple Leafs, Islanders, Rangers

That Hit just felt mostly unnecessary. Puck was gone and he had plenty of time to let up but instead just obliterated Pavelski. It's legal i suppose, but probably shouldn't be.

If that hit is legal, then they need to change the rules.

"Finishing your check" is such a bird-brained idea.
What makes this hit illegal in your mind? I only saw a couple of angles and pardon me if i missed something but from what i saw: this was not late or at very best borderline late. Not a blindside hit. Does not make initial contact with the head. Most damage appears to be from Pavelski hitting his head on the ice which would not be the first time he had to woddble off the ice.
It was mean and it was ruthless but isint it what playoff hockey is supposed to be?

Puck was gone, and Dumba kept tracking into a collision with him. Even if you say that's fine cuz he couldn't alter his track that quickly after the puck is off Pav's stick - and I think that's borderline at best - Dumba then rises up into him/leaves his feet to punctuate the collision. That's not OK in my book when the puck has been off Pav's stick for as long it was (Pav shot, it hit the skirt of the net, and then the collision happens).

I think the whole "finishing your check" schpiel is often just a trope to justify late hits. It's one thing to hit a guy as he is moving or shooting the puck. But when the puck has been gone for that long, there's no longer any link between the hit and the permissible objective of separating the player from the puck. Dumba didn't "finish" his check - he made the decision to rise up into a guy well after the puck had left his stick.

I'd say Kaprizov, Goldy, Johansson, Zucarello and Spurgeon should have their heads on a swivel in Game 2, cuz that kind of hit on a skill player early in the series usually produces a response. And when delivered it's often accompanied by a "Go take it up with your guy [Dumba]"

Sutter wouldn't jive with how they operate. He's way too candid. They need more of a developer anyway rather than go with another Lavi.

ME: "There's no way the Rangers could become more unlikeable."

THE RANGERS: "Hold my mead."

Playoff history aside, it was easy getting into an anti-Rongo headspace last night. All it took was thinking about their total meltdown after Tom Wilson tenderized Panarin.
