The best all-around defenseman to me is the defenseman with the best overall impact on goal-differential. I don't care how they impact the game. It could be mostly offensive, it could be mostly defensive, it could be a blend, it could be because they draw a penalty every time they step on the ice, it could be entirely due to special teams, etc.

The Norris this year is interesting because depending on the model you use you get different results in terms of overall impact. Evolving Hockey's GAR actually rates Vince Dunn as the most impactful defenseman, while xGAR rates Erik Karlsson as the most impactful. And Dom's GSVA rates Adam Fox as the best. Hampus Lindholm is rated top 5 in most of the models as well.

I think I'd vote for Karlsson because 1) he's a deserving winner, but most importantly 2) crotchety old sportswriters will get upset at him winning because he isn't good defensively.

Pittsburgh dead in the water on game 81 of the season against the worst team in the league.

The reaction of their fans is as expected LOL

I’m legitimately shocked to learn this guy has 125 NHL games played. Have never heard his name before.

I actually just meant that as a joke because he has the same last name as the bassist for The Who, but I'm equally shocked that guy's played 125 NHL games and was a high 3rd rounder and I've never heard of him either.

Hey at least somebody cares. I take that idiot over last 2 months of hard ons for losses and constant bickering over whether our chances of drafting bedard are 2%’or closer to 3.

IDK man, both extremes are undesirable IMO.

No need to have an aneurysm because the mediocre team you follow ended up in no man’s land.

I would also take the mentally unstable Penguins fan instead of Capitals fans having fun with the tank after a disappointing season.
