Bruh today I found out Copley has a 19-3 record with the Kings this year. What the f.
Just goes to show you need the team to be balanced to win because he’s doing it with worse numbers than both Lindgren and Kuemper. Copley has below league average numbers (2.70 GAA and .904 save %} despite the Kings ranking 10th in scoring chances against and 11th in high danger chances against but the Kings have been on fire offensively (11th in the league offensively overall and I think 4th in the league since December). And even with Copley’s record it’s reported the Kings are on the market for a goalie and almost traded for Vejmelka but Arizona wouldn’t take Peterson’s contract back.

It’s really cool that Copley has taken this opportunity and made the most out of it to and earned himself another contract but this is not an Andrew Hammond situation where he’s carrying the team on his back. He’s providing below league average goaltending which is a significant upgrade over Quick and Peterson.

Please sell now, Caps. You’re going to run out of buyers with assets to trade!

They need to lose (and preferably lose decisively) tonight. That would make them 1-4 in their self-described “crucial” first seven days back from the ASG break. It would also make them 3-7 in their last 10 with only one regulation win during that 10 game stretch.

Losing tonight would also stop any talk of this game providing them with “a spark,” as some of the players have said this week.

My fear is they think getting Wilson, Dowd, and Ovi back soon will help them go on a run and they’ll continue to putter around to and maybe through the trade deadline losing a pretty unique opportunity to acquire a bunch of assets due to all of their expiring contracts.

Props to the Blues, they saw the writing on the wall and are dealing with it. Two fan favorites gone from the 2019 cup run, but they have 9 picks in this draft with 3 in the first round.
And they still have Barbashev to sell, who seems to have a pretty robust market given his versatility and cheapness.

Tarik on NHLN last night seemed to think they won't sell until the last minute (if they do). He still kept open the possibility of them adding a defenseman if they show signs of life. If they keep losing you never know but there's only so much racetrack left. I'm guessing now that there may not be a '23 first round return on Jensen if made available. I thought TOR was the most obvious fit and no one else really stands out. Maybe TBL but they've already moved this year's and next. And I'm not sure there's an obvious fit for Orlov either. Edmonton maybe? Boston given their interest in other LD? Not sure the D market stands to be that strong. The forward market seems more bare and in demand.

Minnesota’s involvement in that deal was odd. They took on some cap hit and sent out a prospect for a 4th round pick?
A 4th in '25 no less. They do have a lot of cap space currently but that's a cheap return for that amount of retention. Maybe they're doing one of those teams a solid in a prelude to a subsequent deal but given that they should be using that space to add it's quite odd.

Re: the D market, a recent Portzline piece speculating on fits for Gavrikov pretty well lines up for Orlov you'd think. There were seven teams mentioned, one was Washington. Another was Toronto. A couple others were Dallas, Buffalo & Los Angeles. Hard to imagine BUF or LAK would move their first rounder for Orlov. Maybe for Gavrikov they would if there's a team-friendly extension involved but it's a stretch given where both are at. The other two teams were Boston and Edmonton. Those two seem to be the two main players for D...and you wonder if Gavrikov & Chychrun may not be the ones that fetch first rounders instead.

Whereas Carolina, New Jersey, Vegas, Dallas and Colorado all seem to be more in need of forwards among more obvious buyers. So I'm not sure there's going to be a long list of teams lining up for defensemen pushing up returns. Chychrun may not move necessarily. PIT & SEA could also use an upgrade but probably not to the point of moving out a first rounder. So if the Caps move either D it may be for more of a package of assets than one fairly early pick.

Edit: Or, perhaps with the help of retention, maybe they'd get a '24 first for Jensen.

Another trade coming up?
No clue. My first thought was to clear a contract slot but the prospect is playing in juniors and isn’t signed to an ELC. What makes it more odd is that they helped St. Louis out to complete the deal and St. Louis is a division rival.

Orlov looked pretty good to start the season but I think he's dinged a little bit in the lower body he doesn't have the jump he had or even compared to last season.

The teams battling for those two wildcard spots are ALL really bad.

Pens losing again, Isles thumped by the Bruins. Florida thumped by Nashville.
Buffalo can't string two wins together.

The Caps might still make the playoffs simply because the teams around them are just as bad as they are

I tried watching Leafs/Habs game. My goodness that is such a boring broadcast and game. I sure hope this isn't the future of the NHL. Canadian Jr. is more entertaining than this.

It will go down tot he final wire with tossup. Leafs looking like another first round exit too.

Do you think Orlov is resigned before TDL or traded then?

We know the answer, resigned. I don't see GMBM pulling any trades except for a similar swap. It's just too close to call for them to call it.

Caps have the worst record in the league the last 10 games, I would say no.

If Tyler Motte goes for anywhere near a second round pick I won’t be shocked if Hathaway could net a first.

Motte returned Gauthier who is worth next to nothing. Then again Motte hasn't been good in few seasons.

Sens winning after 1st.
