I mean, this Newhook trade would seem to more than offset how difficult the Ryan Johansen trade made a Kuzy trade look.

Yes, Newhook is young and cheap. He's also completely unproven as a 2C, after a year in which Colorado was desperate for him to step up - which he did not do, prompting an early playoff exit and the acquisition of Johansen. Say what you will about Kuzy, but he's more of a 2C than Newhook

If 35 year old Nick Foligno can get 4M for one year when he's basically a 4th liner at this point, how is there no market for one year of Mantha at 5.7M? Sure, there's toughness and intangibles with Foligno, but the over/under for points next season would probably be around 20.

<<Pierre-Luc Dubois, acquired and signed 8x$8.5M by LA, is a top-six centre. He's a very strong offence driver at even strength and on the powerplay but not a great finisher and iffy defensively.>>

We have a guy just like that. And he'll only cost $7.8 million for the next 2 years. And other than the 22-23 season, his numbers since 2017-18 have been better than PLD's every year.

Tyler Toffoli to the Devils for Yegor Sharangovich and a 2023 3rd rounder. What the f***, Calgary? What a garbage return for one of their best trade chips. Would have loved Toffoli on this team.

I feel like the universe is laughing at me. We're going to have a whole summer of teams making dumb trades like this, giving away very valuable assets for next to nothing.

Montreal loves giving up decent assets for mediocre tweeners.

Dvorak, Dach and now Newhook. That rebuild is a dud
Dummies….not at all what they should be doing…..

it’s quite possible we have yet to see PLD’s best still at only 25. I’d take the more consistent younger performer…..

The night starts with the Toronto Maple Leafs' visit to the Washington Capitals at 6 p.m., followed by the Anaheim Ducks and Columbus Blue Jackets at 6:30. After puck drop in Columbus, a new game will start every 15 minutes until 9:15 p.m., and then there are three additional games after that. It should make for an unprecedented night of viewing, with a bit of a March Madness vibe.

Multi-millionaire hockey players, so I don't really care, but....

Imagine Vilardi and Iafallo answering their phones and being told "You're leaving Los Angeles and moving to Winnipeg". That has got to be a real kick in the nuts.
Yeah, I was actually thinking this earlier… can’t imagine you’d be stoked going from Manhattan Beach to Winnipeg. They should call Huberdeau and ask what it’s like going from the tropics to the tundra.

I guess that's why Huberdeau supposedly swore at the Florida GM and hung up the phone!

But he did then agree to an 8 year 84 mill contract with the Flames...

I spent a few days in Calgary 20 years ago and quite liked it. But Winnipeg sounds like a whole different story.

Am I wrong or is that a crazy bad trade for Montreal. Newhook is closer to a bust than a good player.
