Right. If we value consistency then they can either limit everything of this category, or let everything fly. The consensus in this thread is that an insult of this manner is silly. So others of the same sort should also be viewed as silly. None of these insults are threats or anything to take seriously.

They should just use discretion but I’m sure lawyers run the league. I feel like 10 minute misconducts should be given rather than suspensions barring serious slurs or low blows at at player or their family. I’d love to know the backstory, like was Sim going beyond chirping and just berating a player all game who was just staying in his own lane and the ref just had enough? There has to be a deeper plot than someone getting suspended for “Mennonite” or “p***y”. Those are more or less generic chirps, well the latter at least lol

Probably yes, if the league is consistent. Within what is written in the rules as another person said, or as I said, in general values. There must be a story between the two players, if one felt the need to report it?

Yeah it's strange! There was another player, forgot his name, who chirped about another player's dad being dead. He didn't know if he was dead. But he actually was dead. That seems a lot worse? Was he suspended?

Using white religious denominations as a put down are inherently less edgy. But they are just trying to be consistent which is fine i think.

Saying "haha ya f'in Sikh" to a South Asian player would he get you a suspension. So why should it be different for the central European players ?

Exactly. Someone once said, if you want something to stop, then stop talking about it. Bad people look for soft spots to attack, so don't tell them where it is, but expect whatever the flavor of the month insult may be, since they listen intently for what usually offends people so they can use it later. Talking about it snowballs the problem.

So I'll make something up and say I'm in 4th grade, I'm really, really, sensitive about my having an outie vs. an innie bellybutton. You can bet some bad kid in the class would latch onto that and get everyone to laugh just to hurt me. So stop talking about it. Don't give away your blueprint of what makes you tick to just anyone.

And yes, it IS weird, because Mennonite doesn't carry any connotation as far as I know. I suppose they just put a line in the sand.

Historically they have, and it's due to their Pacifist beliefs and refusal to fight in wars.

I guess but it still feels a little too sanitary. I personally don't understand how it's insulting unless you're spicing it up but then I'm not a Sikh or Buddhist or Mennonite. Like i get why yelling "towel head!" at a Muslim is worth a suspension but not "Muslim!" even allowing the guy meant it pejoratively and not a statement of fact. I can accept it though.

Mennonites are pacifists and anti violence. It wasnt uncommon(but also not super mainstream) to call someone that didn't want to fight in war(specifically WW2) a quacker or Mennonite in a perjoritive manner(as seen in Band of Brothers by Bill Guarneer).
