Why they just don't play olympic hockey somewhere in North America? Like Edmonton bubble or something.

Yeah, Olympics are held in China but these are extraordinary times and measures should be the same. Nobody's going to remember this tournament without NHL players.

Even though Finland would become a gold medal favourite from medal candidate without NHL'ers, i still don't want to see basically Euro Hockey Tour on steroids.

Because In NHL's interest is to carry out the whole 82 game season and even without the break it does not seem likely.

And I will skip the Olympic hockey. Didn't watch many games last time without NHL participation. At least the U20's are coming up and WC next spring.

Deep breaths everyone....remember the summer Olympics were postponed as well....the Omicron threat is very real. We may very well see this take place in 2023.

Highly predictable in the less couple weeks that NHL would pull. I still want to see a best on best with Crosby and McDavid on the same team.

In an ideal situation you'd have McDavid and Crosby together in 2016, 2018, and 2022. 2016 McDavid gets to observe as a contributor on Crosby's team. 2018 they lead the team together, and by 2022 it's McDavid's team.

wouldn't be surprised if NHL players skipped out on this especialy with the "covid resurgence"

What? I doubt that USA would even be in the final. Since 1984 USA has exactly 2 medals, both silver. In the meantime Finland has 6, Sweden has 5, Russia has 4 and Czechs 4.
That's really not the point.

It was mostly a rhetorical question as 2 of the last 4 times NHL players played in the Olympics that was the final match-up. The person who I was responding to seems to think that the NHL is dead in Europe.

But to your point USA is a good team I don't know how you can't see that.

Either way it looks like they aren't going thank God.

I've been saying this for awhile.

If Millionaire Connor McDavid can't go because of health and quarantine concerns.. why should Filip Chlapik fly over? (note: insert any non millionaire playing in Europe).

Even using wealthy - Pastrnak says no and Krejci should go?

It's either not safe or it is. Sending poorer players to a tournament deemed unsafe for millionaires is a bit crazy.

Hopefully EU players opt out too.

There is apparently zero respects towards pro atheletes playing hockey in EU and KHL as everyone just expect them to go instead. I would seriously wonder why my health would be worth less playing in EU/KHL than someone making a much bigger salary playing in NHL and having much better infrastructure year round.

Using the argument "but its not because of health safety, its scheduling" is ridiculous.

It's not safety, it's having to quarantine for 5 weeks in a hotel room they're worried about.

That has been debunked by different sources, the official statement is you're tested every day and you will have to need a negative result two days in a row to be released. So, there is no actual quarantine period.

I also think the outrage over the Omicron mutation is overstated. By all statistics and witnesses, those vaccinated will catch basically nothing else but an ordinary flu. The problem is those not vaccinated. For hockey players to catch just another flu isn't a problem in itself.

Basically all mutations attacking vaccinated people have had mild symptoms. However, if the concern was China I would be all about boycotting the games. The same as the at least as ridiculous World Cup in Qatar.

Let the 5G foil hats succumb to a new virus if that is their new conviction and refuse to vaccinate. There's no need to halt everything just because we get another form of flu.

However, this is quite cruel towards poor countries that aren't vaccinated, which brings another spectrum to the equation. The world is simply put a circus.

That’s because the bottom line here isn’t health and safety, it’s money.

So in other words it's very possible to get stuck there for weeks if you happen to get it and test positive at some point. That's a very easy 'No thanks, Jeff' if I was an NHL Player.

It's all moot anyway we know they're not going already.

Yeah, that's the crazy dictatorship part. I won't argue if that's an argument. But I don't think China is that crazy. They bought these games for PR. They want the opposite of the NHL entering the tournament.

And if China doesn't give a shit, well, then you know they just bought the Olympics because they could and they don't really care, because they think they are the #1 Superpower and want to give the finger in as many numerous ways as they can within their corrupt establishment.

Unless they lied. About many things.

Safety of the players aside, as that's clearly the real priority. I prefer the Olympics without NHL participation. It's more fun with a more level talent pool. Where's the fun in a juggernaut Team Canada?

I prefer seeing other countries establish themselves more, and watchng lesser known Canadian and American players making their mark.

Because this isn't about player safety. It is about NHL team owners and money. They don't want to cancel games so they are trying to scare the players from going.

NHL players are such a cry babies if they don't go to the olympics. Everybody else is going but a bunch of millionaires are too scared to go. The players should manup.

Czech chances go up when NHLers don't go... I'd still prefer a best on best despite my medal chances slipping to near zero.

I want to see McDavid and Crosby on the same time.

I want to see the Finn's in action... This new generation is amazing.

That USA team looks amazing on paper.

You actually trust the numbers that China is reporting?
I love how you're asking a loaded question and making me defend a position that I've never taken. It's like something out of a commie manual.

China is an authoritarian state that couldn't give two shits about personal liberties. There is no opposition, no protests, nothing. There are no ethical dilemmas of whether to shut things down or not.

If there is an outbreak, they shut things down and don't let you get out of your home. They have welded people's doors shut to make sure of that.

So I would suggest to use your common sense here. It is well known that lockdowns bring the reproduction number down drastically. They are enforcing draconian lockdowns all the time whenever an outbreak happens. 3 week quarantines, the whole thing.

The way I see it, you've got two options here. Either you put 2 plus 2 together and recognize this piece of information that has somehow slipped your news feed or you can just write it all off ignoring the bits that don't fit your opinion and just stick to what you believe in to make you feel better.

If you recognize the facts, it is pretty straightforward. China is a much safer place whether you believe their official statistics or not. Not because they're a better country, but because they are a single-party authoritarian police state.

So, once again, the risk of contracting Covid in China is much lower than anywhere in the West. You can't control free and open societies, the movement of labour and people is pretty much unrestricted in the West. Just put your thinking hat on.

Do you remember much of anything from the last Olympics? I remember Kaprizov and nothing more. Very few players established anything.

add that this is in China and teams will be begging players to play... ugh.. Canada may be calling gents teams.

I'm assuming you mean Europe and not EU. EU would exclude countries like Switzerland.
