Here’s a pic of Crosby when nhlers return to the olympics in 2056
Why they just don't play olympic hockey somewhere in North America? Like Edmonton bubble or something.
Yeah, Olympics are held in China but these are extraordinary times and measures should be the same. Nobody's going to remember this tournament without NHL players.
Even though Finland would become a gold medal favourite from medal candidate without NHL'ers, i still don't want to see basically Euro Hockey Tour on steroids.
Deep breaths everyone....remember the summer Olympics were postponed as well....the Omicron threat is very real. We may very well see this take place in 2023.
Highly predictable in the less couple weeks that NHL would pull. I still want to see a best on best with Crosby and McDavid on the same team.
That's really not the point. What? I doubt that USA would even be in the final. Since 1984 USA has exactly 2 medals, both silver. In the meantime Finland has 6, Sweden has 5, Russia has 4 and Czechs 4.
Exactly. It's completely absurd. The thing is: NHL player would very probably be much more secure in the Olympic bubble than they are right now.
That has been debunked by different sources, the official statement is you're tested every day and you will have to need a negative result two days in a row to be released. So, there is no actual quarantine period. It's not safety, it's having to quarantine for 5 weeks in a hotel room they're worried about.
I've been saying this for awhile.
If Millionaire Connor McDavid can't go because of health and quarantine concerns.. why should Filip Chlapik fly over? (note: insert any non millionaire playing in Europe).
Even using wealthy - Pastrnak says no and Krejci should go?
It's either not safe or it is. Sending poorer players to a tournament deemed unsafe for millionaires is a bit crazy.

I also think the outrage over the Omicron mutation is overstated. By all statistics and witnesses, those vaccinated will catch basically nothing else but an ordinary flu. The problem is those not vaccinated. For hockey players to catch just another flu isn't a problem in itself.
Basically all mutations attacking vaccinated people have had mild symptoms. However, if the concern was China I would be all about boycotting the games. The same as the at least as ridiculous World Cup in Qatar.
Let the 5G foil hats succumb to a new virus if that is their new conviction and refuse to vaccinate. There's no need to halt everything just because we get another form of flu.
However, this is quite cruel towards poor countries that aren't vaccinated, which brings another spectrum to the equation. The world is simply put a circus.
Yeah, that's the crazy dictatorship part. I won't argue if that's an argument. But I don't think China is that crazy. They bought these games for PR. They want the opposite of the NHL entering the tournament. So in other words it's very possible to get stuck there for weeks if you happen to get it and test positive at some point. That's a very easy 'No thanks, Jeff' if I was an NHL Player.
It's all moot anyway we know they're not going already.

Czech chances go up when NHLers don't go... I'd still prefer a best on best despite my medal chances slipping to near zero.Safety of the players aside, as that's clearly the real priority. I prefer the Olympics without NHL participation. It's more fun with a more level talent pool. Where's the fun in a juggernaut Team Canada?
I prefer seeing other countries establish themselves more, and watchng lesser known Canadian and American players making their mark.
Exactly. It's completely absurd.
The incidence rates in PRC are much, much lower than in the US or Canada.
I love how you're asking a loaded question and making me defend a position that I've never taken. It's like something out of a commie manual. You actually trust the numbers that China is reporting?

Hopefully EU players opt out too.
There is apparently zero respects towards pro atheletes playing hockey in EU and KHL as everyone just expect them to go instead. I would seriously wonder why my health would be worth less playing in EU/KHL than someone making a much bigger salary playing in NHL and having much better infrastructure year round.
Using the argument "but its not because of health safety, its scheduling" is ridiculous.
