Firmly and vigorously anti-mounting, especially all of these shenanigans. The TV already has a stand, why are you adding extra steps? Just set the thing down at eye level and start watching it.

This segues nicely into a question. I'm in the market for a TV. My 8 year old Samsung is still watchable but has some areas of blooming / halo effect and I'm ready to move on. I'm cripplingly cheap, but do very occasionally like to treat myself. It's also the only TV in the house - my wife watches more television than I do but is fanatically anti-TV in a living room or bedroom, so we have a TV / media room in a finished basement. I've been eyeing the LG c1 55" but refuse to spend 1K+ on a TV, especially a model year behind. I'm hoping it drops down to a more reasonably-priced 6 or 700ish before I pull the trigger. Maybe Black Friday?

So, I'm looking some recs. Anybody have an alternative they'd like to recommend? In the past, it would have mostly been for sports and movies (my kids can deal with lag or whatever when they're gaming for all I care), and I would have prioritized sports, but who knows when the next time I sit down to watch a hockey game will be.

Also, once upon a time in college, I used to watch the Lindros-era Flyers on Prism with a snowy old tube TV with an illegal splitter. I could barely follow the action but I'd be glued to the damn thing. Imagine how far we've come / the organization has fallen.

First you came after Dogs, and now after Wall-Mounting your TV? This is a bridge too far.

I’m exactly the same way when it comes to myself, both the cheapness and the hesitancy to buy older generations without going into extreme depth of knowledge. I broke down and bought the exact same tv (55” C1) last winter. I justified it by constantly reminding myself people also buy them to use as computer monitors, so I’m well into the reasonable scale.

Black Friday has been largely disappointing in the last few years. You may find a decent sale, but because they’re so damn popular, I personally wouldn’t hold out for 600-700 with much hope. The 48 is 899 right now. The 55 is 899 as a refurb when you can find it. That would be my best case scenario guess.

FWIW The lowest I’ve seen the price was 1097 + 10% back when using an Amazon CC. You can usually get it for the same sale price at a place like Costco with a better warranty, or pay slightly less (50ish) on one of those stacking Amazon deals.

I like my tv just a hair over eye level. I have tvs mounted and on an entertainment center.
When you recline the above eye level becomes eye level. How many times am I going to type eye level?

I am finally out of Covid isolation today. Still have a sore throat and not the best energy/focus, but it's been 10 days since I became symptomatic, 5 days since the fever broke and 2 consecutive days of negative tests.

They had the 48" down to 7-something for Prime Day last week. I seriously considered pulling the trigger but I think I want the bigger set, or else I'll just settle for something cheaper, like the TCL 6 series. There are so many Samsung options out there that it's a bit overwhelming. I can wait it out a bit longer, and I also have to pay a shit ton for college tuition starting this year.

If you have enough wall space you should man up and get an overhead projector with a 100" screen

FWIW big big sales events like Black Friday and I think prime day switch which models are available at the current sale price. It’s not the same model that was just a bit more a few days before the sale. They use lesser quality parts and give the model a slightly different model number, like added letters after the normal #

One of my favorite low key things about the French is that they are impossibly cheesy. Popular perception is that they're all a bunch of snobby sophisticates, and sure, but this is also a people who unironically adore Claude François. (Google it.)

They love to have little spectacles here at the beach: magic shows, dance troupes - the other night was break dancing, tribal drumming, etc., but most of all they really like their cover bands and amateur chanteuses, especially if they're performing English-language pop songs. Large crowds of tourists gather round to hear the hairdresser from the nearby village belt out Amy Winehouse. I can hear the show tonight from my terrace, and I have to say that tonight's set list is one for the ages. The aforementioned AW, Phil Collins' Another Day in Paradise, Shallow - they unfortunately were not hitting those high notes though not for lack of trying, a reasonable take on the OG version of Tainted Love, some Supertramp, Every Step You Take, and now some Queen.

I vote French cheesy-ness is not a category

@BiggE since your team owner is in time out for being naughty is it time to choose another one?
