Amazon is jonesing to have the next big water cooler show. I don’t know what their data says — who does? — but they’ve assuredly failed so far. The sci-fi/fantasy costs the most in special effects, so no matter how much Amazon beats you over the head with what they paid for a show, that area is going to take from something else.

I think Jack Ryan — from snippets — visually looks better than the sci-fi/fantasy tentpole stuff. Again, see my first paragraph. But it’s still more on the competent end. I don’t watch Slow Horses on Apple, but watch trailers of each, and I think it’s obvious which looks more cinematic.

Amazon has the money to do whatever they want. This is what they want to do: throw algorithm shit against wall. I absolutely believe they, with the odd exception, don’t place much value on directors and unique creators comparatively.

"Slow Horses" shits all over everything Amazon has put out (that I have seen) in every single way possible. Your last sentence is a billion % on the money.

The terminal list was fun. Jack Ryan was fun, the last season has a ton of “we need to do this hard thing, wait it’s solved super fast or seeming to skip past problems in a transition”.
Sneaky Pete is their best show imo

The lighting is so amateurish on all of their action/sci-fi/fantasy stuff. It's both harsh and hideous. I'd love to hear an expert technical director like DePalma or Tarantino give their opinions on it.

Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on the other hand, is a flawless show from a production standpoint..and writing..and acting. It's their best series they've produced IMO.
Agree 100% on Maisel. Anytime the missus and I both love the same show it’s something special. While pretty much the whole main cast is stellar, Tony Shalhoub is a national treasure.

Ryan is solid, but easily forgettable. It’s not something I’m gonna rewatch 5-10 years from now.

Every AMC show is completely ruined by pacing. They're all designed as vehicles for max commercials. It makes them suck.

Not every...Better Call Saul was excellent start to finish. Vince Gilligan is uncompromising.

But yeah, this started once The Walking Dead became uber-popular. Entire network has gone downhill. It used to be the king of hill with Mad Men and Breaking Bad.

With like 25 people in this draft, there's one category that is a must pick in the first round, for it dries up almost immediately.

God Of War. The Last of Us. Horizon. The Witcher. Spiderman. Ghost of Tsushima. Ratchet and Clank. The Shadow of Collosus. Bloodborne. Uncharted. Crash Bandicoot.

It's clear the PS5 is the only choice here for videogame console

@Striiker can go: CF88 is out til Monday

They're right about AMC and the Boring Dead, you know, especially the latter. From cast to crew to fans, they love to smell their own farts.

We start the day with @Striiker on the clock, @Beef Invictus on deck, @JojoTheWhale on the lido deck, and Chuckles on the lido afterdeck.

You know the funny thing about harem anime? They tend to have very watchable stories, and not just because of the ecchi parts. The virginal dudes who star in all of them are hilarious, both in their love for boobs and panties and their total flummoxing and vexation in finally getting beside, beneath and bestride them. Their reactions are just glorious.

F***, the Walking Dead universe sucks so bad. Now I've got that stuck in my craw.

I've been in Bulgaria for a few days now and feel like this is a good place to live. Lots of graffiti, cheap beer and a lot of stores only accept cash to evade paying taxes. Plus, there seems to be no noise laws, schools are back in and are blasting music to welcome the students. Cool stuff.

Btw - Phase 25 pick categories look great

We would definitely get along, Chuck.

How are the travels going overall?

Very good. Ten countries since late June, all of them have been kind to us. Off to Serbia for a few days next week and then back to Bulgaria for a while. A few more countries after that then a couple month break in Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur) to rest. Travelling the world is my kinda life, been taking a lot of videos of the graffiti and beer, might make this a permanent thing.

That's where I am now. Did some touristy things today, Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, Mall of Sofia (smallest Ikea in the world) and am going to go and get some Bulgarian food in a bit. The people are a little more miserable here than in Romania, they say it's because in Romania they actually punish the corrupt politicians. But what do I know? I'm just a guy taking buses.

Buddy of mine and I sat down at an outdoor cafe for lunch, had zero background on the language. So we opened the menu and just pointed at stuff. We got dessert. It was delicious. We weren't on a tour, so we were just figuring out our way around. Hired a cab driver for the weekend, which helped immensely, as it gave us a bit of a hand with the language barrier.

We’re getting by so far without knowing more than a few words in Bulgarian. I can read Cyrillic, so that helps a lot. I like the idea of hiring a driver, but I am an avid walker. Too many steps, but I am old and need to exercise.

This day sucks. A dear friend of ours has been fighting a battle against brain cancer, but it looks like the battle will soon be over as she was moved to inpatient hospice today. I’m at their home right now taking care of their sweet little dog.

If my turn comes up today, just skip me.

f*** cancer.
My thoughts with you bud.
