Well, we really made progress yesterday, didn't we?
So, quote, "We start the day with @Lord Defect on the clock, @BigToe on deck with a pair (phrasing), back through the chasm of milord's stupidity to @GKJ on the lido deck, and Rebels on the lido afterdeck."
I watched "Wakanda Forever" last night, and I liked it - it was a bit different in some ways. There were three main problems. First, in all of the ways in which it wasn't different from the other Marvel movies, it was lame (to use just one example, all of the f***ing twirling when they fight). Second, Angela Bassett is the Jon Voight of lady actors - a total ham. If you don't believe me, watch an episode of "911," though I would strongly recommend just believing me rather than watching that horrible shit. Third, those Wakanda accents are tortured and awful, almost as bad as poor Daniel Henney's faux British slop in "Wheel of Diarrhea." The thing about that, though, is that I don't think there is an easy solution - African accents in English sound that way even when they are authentic. It's just a weird linguistic quirk.
Having said all that, there was plenty of good about the movie. The representations of African culture are great and authentic and welcome - like they had one of those National Geographic guys with a plate in his lip, you know those? I liked that they included that. I really like Black Panther's sister - I think the character is cool, and I think the actress is good and also very cute. They also did a tremendous job of saying goodbye to Chadwick Boseman. They took their time with it in a few different places and balanced respect with honest emotion. They used silence masterfully, and that actress was great in those moments.
As for the story and the enemy, it was just different enough to pique my interest, at least through the first half.
