For Team Cartoonist, I'm picking someone on my Christmas card list (no, seriously). So I'm not going for my favourite cartoon, but rather nabbing the opportunity to take a friend outside these boards to the Quackverse.

A high school friend of mine has had a successful career in animation alongside her husband RANCH, who created Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. In addition to working on those shows with him, she also created My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and DC Super Hero Girls.

Team Cartoonist: Lauren Faust

I also chose to represent this choice with a picture of a pony called Derpy for no particular reaso-oh, hey, @Lord Defect , you're up!

At first I thought: is kidnapping a friend and forcing them to board our colony ship off Earth Prime, with no say in the matter, a nice thing? Then I instantly realized: it’s the nicest thing ever.

The Stay Pufts will be selecting yet another sorcerer(ess), this time in the form of our Team Queen.
Queen Maeve of Ireland was a fierce warrior who led and ruled in her own right before marrying. Her husband had a prized bull that she wanted one capable of matching it. After negotiations fell through to purchase the bull a battle was brewing. To avoid the fight, Queen Maeve cursed the men defending the bull with the pangs of childbirth.
The people she stole the bull from weren’t all that good to begin with, what with having Queen Maeve race a goddess in chariots while QM was pregnant with twins.

@Young Sandwich the more I read about her the weirder it gets. How weird is your next pick going to be?

Tell this to @Striiker. He’s still pretty ungrateful and he even gets to bring a ton of things that he enjoys with him.

That stupid, stupid ad-blocker warning is making a real nuisance of itself again.

We start the day with @Young Sandwich on the clock, @JojoTheWhale on deck, @BernieParent on the lido deck, and ajgoal on the lido afterdeck.

Speaking of lyrics, you know another favorite of mine?

"Years gone by, I'd say we've kicked some ass
Something something something
Yada yada yada
And I'd say we're still kickin' ass"

It just f***ing slays me  I have no idea why, but I just think it's hilarious. It's like when you are singing along, you can't help saying "And I'd say we're still kickin' ace." I love it.

"Yeah!"
"Choice!"
"This is where it all began!"
"AGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"
"Yeah!"
"You want to check it out?"

Quick pick time here too. I read A LOT as a kid, but I was never very much into children's books. The one major exception I can recall was absolutely loving the absurdist short stories in the Wayside School series.

Wayside School is Falling Down

Let me tell you, lads, these books were weird. Due to a miscommunication error with a contstruction company, the classrooms of Wayside School were built vertically into a one classroom wide, 30 story building. The 19th floor didn't exist. It was Schrodinger's floor. A kid gets a tattoo of a potato. There was an invasion of cows.

I have heard of Holes, but never read it. Now thanks to the Quackverse and @Magua , I know it's what Louis Sachar is most famous for these days.

Oh shit, I totally forgot about those books. You've awoken a sleeping nostalgia in me and I thank you for that Jojo.

I still have this book! And the original. I’ve got quite the collection of children/YA books honestly because I refuse to part with them.

But now I’m wondering what a young child would read that’s not a children’s book…..

Sports, fantasy, and detective series. I read things like this literally cover to cover:

We won't speak of James anymore. I made the mistake of following him on Twitter and it turns out he's really a prick. Total Baseball was better than his books anyway.

!looC I will have to ask Mrs. Parent (the elementary schoolteacher) if she has heard of this series.

As it is the middle of a loaded workday, I'll unceremoniously kick one out with minimal write-up. Team Talk Show Host: Stephen Colbert. He can do talk show in character or as himself, he is funny but can still do serious and poignant, and he is very open about his faith.

Caution: politics ... it cannot be helped!

Over to you, @ajgoal.

I meant to ask you this after your Holes selection, but how do you think Shia TheBeef did in the big screen role of Stanley Yelnats? I've never read the book, but I saw the movie (recently for the first time actually) with some younger family members.

Well, it's been 15 year since I probably saw it.

Fine? He wasn't what I had in my head when reading; I think Stanley was supposed to be overweight. They didn't skimp on the supporting cast though: Henry Winkler, Sigourney Weaver, Jon Voight, Patricia Arquette, Tim Blake Nelson, Dulé Hill. Holy mackerel.

It's a Disney movie; it certainly is a bit artistically and thematically sanitized. I do remember thinking it was a watchable, good movie though for kids and adults alike. It got good reviews looking at it now. Louis Sachar actually wrote the screenplay, so that helps.

Oh good. I thought you were reading The Necronomicon or something worse, like Dan Brown. I read multiple Dan Brown books in elementary school. I was never the same.
