I was huge into the Civil War. I read The Killer Angels in middle school. Blood Meridian is the one I snuck in for laughs. Imagine giving that to a 10 year old. Good lord. The only thing more horrific and scarring would be Dan Brown.
I obviously read 100x those books from the library, but I just happen to own those. There’s some oddities like not owning the last book in a trilogy. I don’t know why. One day.
