I think a number of players are on the table.

I wouldn’t rule out Lehkonen/Nichushkin in deals where a NHL ready prospect is coming back. Colton/Wood more likely.

My hope is that it’s not a straight cash out situation with only picks coming back. I’d like cheap depth coming our way, or good NHL ready prospects.
You tell Jared Bednar that Artturi Lehkonen is a cap casualty.

Drouin - MacKinnon - Rantanen
Landeskog - Mittelstadt - Nichushkin
Wood - Colton - Lehkonen
Kelly - xxxx - O'Connor
xxx

Toews - Makar
Girard - Manson
DeHaan - xxx

That leaves 1.112m unused. Add ~1.125m for Nichushkin's pro-rated caphit (not including skater's cap who takes his spot until November) and you have $2.237m, which divided by three players is $745k, $30k x3 (total ~$90k) short of a 21 man roster.

And Malinski, Behrens, and Kovalenko make $850k-$900k which would make it even tighter. Clearly a cap-opening move will be needed by the time Nichushkin comes back. Maybe something happens today, of maybe CMac will take a calculated gamble and resolve this in November if/when Landeskog and Nichushkin actually do return.

I don't understand the Edmonton part. Are the Avs a perennial dweller? They're the ones with a Stanley Cup. We know how rare it is for teams to get back there after having been there the previous season.
The Avs aren’t that team anymore. They’re contenders. They won a cup 3 seasons ago. People consider them competitive. But the sweetheart deals will go through better teams before they go through the Avs.

I know even 3 mil might have been too rich for us (in fact it would be unless we trade someone out).

But it sickens me that he chose Edmonton. There were probably plenty of other options for him. But I guess he's smart going to re-up his value next to McDavid.

It’s prorated because he’ll miss close to 20% of the season’s days while on suspension.

But no, even with that, we’re over the cap with a healthy team.

Forwards with Nuke pro-rated (12):
$55,950,000

Defense (6):
$27,400,000

Goalies (2)
$4,240,000

Total:
$87,590,000

Cap space
$410K.

I can’t believe skinner still got 3M lol. I mean yeah dude get your money but Jesus you’ve made like 100M and never played a playoff game and now you get to go play with Mcdavid. I thought he’d do a 1x1 or something.

That's too bad. I would've liked him but the Avs couldn't afford it unless they moved someone. I guess David Jones is staying as the 3C for now.
