Prospect Info: NHL Entry Draft thread: LA Kings select Quinton Byfield 2nd Overall (Part 3)

I've stated before, I'm getting info from someone related to a scout. I've been giving lil tidbits, never claimed anything is imminent. A lot of you have hit it on the nail, a lot of the things I have posted are common sense stuff, so it's not like I'm getting fed secrets.

With that said, I've been giving more privy info as far as letting you guys know that, yea those so called common sense rumors are true and how we got rejected for 1st OA and what prospects Kings are high on. Take it as you all wish. Enjoy the draft.

Sorry, I missed that.

Cheers and thank you for sharing!

Thank god, just over 2 hours for this all to end.

All the big-braining has been exhausting.

My favorite new one is that all the LA inside sources are saying Byfield as a big smokescreen.

Almost across that finish line either way, can't wait to just be happy about the pick and to stop hearing how some coffee running intern's second cousin tied Stutzle's shoes while he was on the phone with Phil Anshutz so Byfield is a dumb choice.

You take Byfield. So much potential mixed with speed and size! Of course if the Rangers freak out and go for a number one center with their first round pick, we end up taking Lafreniere with our first round pick and become the most hated team at the draft.

I'll be honest. My biggest source of skepticism is the "I got the okay from my source."

I can't imagine a source (assuming the source is reliable) being okay with details being leaked, since it may identify them.

So it's either second hand, the source doesn't care about risking losing his job, or it's made up.

Please note I'm not making a statement to the accuracy of any of the information he's passed. I don't know who it is or how credible they are. I just question a direct source honestly being okay unless they have nothing to lose by it.
Yeah.. I never believe anything anyone posts with the blessing of a source close to the team. Anyone that close to the team and part of the inner circle is unlikely to share info with anyone outside of it and will certainly never give any blessing to sharing it on a forum. It’s how pro hockey works, even at much lower levels and most of the time they don’t even tell their wives this sort of info... In my experience, if true it would be coming from someone that is not as close to the inner circle as they like to think they are. They would also be demonstrating that they are not all that trustworthy.

The scary thing about teams trading down (even just one spot) at the top of the draft is the what-ifs going forward. If that other guy at #2 ends up way heads-and-shoulders above the guy you end up taking. Of course, if your guy is better in the end and you got extra assets (who pan out), then you look brilliant. I still say that i only move down one spot if the guy i am taking at #2 is the SAME guy that I end up getting at #3. Otherwise, i stay at #2 and select the better player. you don't get cute here. There's just no guarantee the extra assets you pick up (28, etc.) even pans out.

From what I was told, the thought process with this was to get 28 and maybe another 2nd. and move the 28 with multiple seconds to get into the late lottery. The Kings are really high on a defenseman and goalie in that area.

For the record, those are players that Kings want in the 2nd. If they can get to the mid 1st. round they really like Schneider.

This kid has the Kings eyes on him.
