It's really hard to take this guy's word seriously when he can't take 30 seconds to learn how to spell his name.

This is hilarious. It shows you that people can't form their own opinion and just go by whatever other posters say.

Or maybe hate it because it was a reach and wasn't one of the two highly rated prospects that fell and didn't know much about any of them so initial reaction is "Hate it" but then after some time realized it wasn't so bad after all.

I think the FO knew who they wanted and took who they wanted when they could. I can see the appeal of this kid given that speed is one thing the team lacks and he appears to have that in spades. Actually one thing I notice this draft-almost none of the picks are evaluated lowly on their skating. The FO seems to have been targeting kids with speed but also some size. They made moves that hopefully play out into a faster but still ohysical team. I'm okay with that plan.

I still think #15 was a reach when they didn't have to at the time but then It appears they either wanted him badly and maybe they took him then because they believed he wasn't going to be there or they couldn't work a deal to trade down. Don't know-the whole draft is a giant crap shoot anyway outside of a few obvious choices. After thinking on it I've decided Inwould rather the FO target kids with certain skills than just pick the most talented kid. It's definitely a gamble though and one they may lose badly within the next few years.

B for me

I thought we were evaluating based on the draft?

some solid additions and filled our depth substantially.

I am close friends with Richard Nurse and he loves the kid from the Soo.

if we did not take him where we did he would have been gone; fast rising and on a quite a few lists as a first round pick.

so, it was Dougie for DeBrusk, Karlsson, Lauzon.

If all pan out (a massive if) - Debrusk a 30 goal scorer, Karlsson a good 2 way #2 center, and Lauzon a 2nd pairing do it all defender who will drop em.

Are we mad still if they all or 2/3 hit the ceiling?

What if they don't quite hit that ceiling but close and Dougie doesn't pan out to be more than a point producing #2/3 puck mover and massively overpaid?

I gotta go C

I think the 1st round picks are very risky when we could have had other players that weren't as risky.

Zboril would have been my 13th pick as well, exactly what I was expecting

DeBrusk is a pick I don't get. When Connor and Brazal are still on the board why are we reaching for a player like this. Time will tell but I'm not overly optimistic about this pick.

Senyshyn while this pick interreges me I would have waited for the second round on this one at 37 and taken Chabot who went 18th or one of Connor or Brazal.

Carlo is a pick I can live with.

Karlsson leaves me wanting would have taken Greeway here

Lauzon is meh.

Vladar I don't get this pick at all. Nothing against the player and yes I realize he'll arrive in 4/5 years but I can think of more pressing needs than a Goalie

Gabrielle I'm on board with for a 105 OA worth taking a shot.

Not sure why we trade a mid 5th for what is likely to be a lower 5th next year

The rest is a crap shoot.

If the 1st rounders pan out it will be a very good draft year for us but the odds are against that happening.

I like what they did for the most part, even if they reached a bit.

Don't understand picking a goalie in the 4th, not a need whatsoever.

Hamill, Caron, and Colborne were all "safe" picks. Happy to see them taking some chances in the 1st round instead.

Is it true they snagged someone Chiarelli wanted at 16, prompting him to trade out?

Caron was a safe pick. He looked like a sure thing high quality 3rd line winger with legit top 6 potential at his daraft

Hamil wasn't a safe pick.best scorer in his league but physical limitations. He was going to be high end or bust.

Colborne was a crazy risky pick.the opposite of safe. High ceiling but very high bust potential.

In terms of this year's picks.

I love the goalie.
I love the defensemen
Not sold on the forwards. Specifically Debrusk worries me.

1) Boston Bruins

Boston Bruins square logoANALYSIS: What in the world was Don Sweeney doing on Friday? Seriously, he got fleeced for Hamilton and forced to retain salary on Lucic, two of Boston’s best assets. Those deals just didn’t make sense. Was he attempting to stick it to Chiarelli by dealing Hamilton to Edmonton’s biggest rival to avoid the threat of an offer sheet from the Oilers? Whatever the case, there is no justification for that trade and the return for Lucic wasn’t a whole lot better. I understand that there were cap reasons involved, but there had to be better offers out there, especially for Hamilton. That one is almost Joe Thornton to San Jose bad for Boston. Making matters worse, Sweeney passed up some great talent and went off the board with Boston’s three consecutive picks at 13th (Jakub Zboril), 14th (Jake DeBrusk) and especially 15th (Senyshyn). He could have taken Mathew Barzal, Kyle Connor and Evgeny Svechnikov in those spots to save a little face, but Sweeney and the Bruins totally blew it by my assessment. I guess Zboril was ranked in that range, but DeBrusk probably wouldn’t have went in the top 20 and Senyshyn was iffy to go in the top 40, so he was a huge reach at 15th as the key piece coming back for Hamilton. I just feel sorry for Bruins fans, though I do believe Boston fared better on the second day of the draft by picking Brandon Carlo, Forsbacka-Karlsson, Lauzon, Daniel Vladar and even Jesse Gabrielle. Those guys should help ease the pain over time, but right now it must feel like a low blow.

It's not unwarranted when you pass on players like Barzal and Connor for players ranked much later. Our picks might turn out to be NHLers but I highly doubt they'll be better than the players they passed on.

There's so much ignorance in this post that it hurts. :help:

I'm not someone who follows these prospects at all, so I appreciate everyone's input.

Obviously we won't know who "won" or "lost" this draft for another 3-5 years at least. All things considered, these players for the most part sound like the kind of players the Bruins need.

Bring on July 1!

They are a couple of years away from being NHL ready...What do we do NOW ?

F. We could have done a lot more with our picks/assets. We were loaded with picks but never moved up for a premier top 6 talent who might be able to contribute sooner rather than later.

Instead we reached on two developmental forwards we could have gotten end of the 1st round/top of the 2nd and passed on guys with star potential.

Zboril was probably our best pick of the night..... and that's a scary thought.

Professional scouts that have spent the last year watching these players decided this is what we need. We've all been sat on the internet. We can pretend to like or dislike a pick, but most of us aren't even close to being informed enough to do so. I initially thought 'why not Barzal and Connor?', but eventually realised that I don't know a thing. There could be a million reasons why Gretzky and his chums were desperate to land DeBrusk and Senyshyn, and we'll never know them. I have faith in the picks because what else can you do

Wait til you are paying to watch Chris Stewart loaf around on a 12th place team.

The important thing is that the kids will be ready when they go to buyout Matt Beleskey's contract.

And we're paying our top pairing 18m a season because despite what we've seen in the history of free agency, people seem to be far more comfortable paying you for what you have done not what you will do.

As long as Jeremy Jacobs is the owner of this team we need to be the most cynical, questioning fanbase in the NHL.

F

Too many (actually all) of those top 6 picks used on players with limited upside.

I get taking the safe pick but you mean to tell me they couldn't take one or two guys who at least have high-level upside, the chance to be star players. Passing on Barzal and Connor was inexcusable. Even if they only took one of them it would of been easier to swallow.

Absolutely hate the Senyshyn pick. I get they liked him but with all the high-end value left on the board at that point they should of left him to see if he was there at 37. It's not like it would cripple the franchise if some team took him before the Bruins could take a shot at him at 37.

Right now it looks like this team loaded up on potential 3rd line forwards, 4/5/6 D-men and goal-tending when they probably had the best stable of young goaltenders in the league already.

Looks like they are focused on building a team from the bottom-half up, when everyone else is building teams from the top-half down.

And I'm not even basing this grade on the Hamilton or Lucic deals, or re-signing McQuaid when there is clearly no need for his services as a 3rd pair RD.

BruinsDust you've been killing it since the draft day. Pretty spot on.

FWIW, I don't "hate" the Senyshyn pick. But I would have been willing to swallow it if they had taken one of Barzal/Connor, who players with very high upside.

Gotta admit it does look a bit suspicious that the off-the-board picks at 14 and 15, plus the #13 are all represented by the same agency group, But then I guess you have to ask, what possible advantage is there to these players/agents to fix it so they get drafted by the Bruins in the first round?

Whaaat? Has that been reported?
