Curious how much actually having a big team at the draft table actually matters. As an example in the Caufield draft there was the scene where Timmins was telling Julien about how much he would like Caufield for the PP. Was Julien really bringing any type of value to the draft or was he just there to shake hands with the picks and say some nice words? Like it's perfectly fine if it's the latter, but you can also go with a much smaller table size and still have the coach in the building interacting with fans and media, but rather then being at the table they simply come down to the floor when it's time to pick.

At best the value of the guys at the table is in helping the GM say yes/no to moving up/down in the draft, which we had also seen in that draft video with the Bergevin/Timmins interaction. But again it's not like you need everyone at the table for that either. Surely a bunch could be "remote" either in a lodge/office in the building or even at home.

The NHL is looking at the cost of the draft....does it pay for itself???
I mean no matter what rink they go, it is NEVER sold out ...and the 2nd day
of the draft rd 234567 is pretty darn empty....They have to be losing $$....

If there looking for venues of 5 000 to 10,000 that's all ya need to know .
Buildings of 18-21 k are just too large.

Really who cares though
I fell in love with the first NHL Entry Draft I ever watched, and it was by accident, when the Nordiques took Sundin 1st overall. I was ten going on eleven and it just seemed so "cool", like a hockey event I didn't realize was a thing. So for me it still has some magic even at this ripe old age of midlife crisis.

I get it, it would be fine, but that's my reason for caring. I can also accept what's out of my control.

Since you asked friend, cool story, hey? LOL

Just one more thing...if they are looking for venues of 5000 to 10,000
i hope they go to hockey mad NON NHL markets once in a while.....having the NHL draft in
Halifax NS or Moncton NB for example , that would be a big ticket draw.that would create
a lot of buzzz.and high ticket prices etc.

Same goes for out West and down South... go to hockey mad markets with no NHL teams, and
hold the draft.

Friedman has in his 32 Thoughts, 30 teams voted to decentralize the draft. Starting in 2025 going to be major changes to the draft.

Clubs cited three reasons. Teams felt some of their plans being overheard. The costs. Finally some teams said draft was so close to free agency not time to travel and make all moves they wanted.
