If Duhaime misses time, who fills in at 4LW? Lapierre seems like a terrible fit for that line, doubt they'd want Miro in that role either, and Trineyev's hurt. Who else in Hershey would fit that grinder role, Rybinski? Could Matt Strome finally join his brother in the NHL?

Are there any goalies that:
* have the history of performance to have confidence in them?
* are on teams that would be likely sellers at the deadline (and willing to trade their starting goalie)?
* (optional here I guess, but) ... preferably are young enough and/or on decent contracts past 2024-25?
* might be worth acquiring for a Hendrix type prospect (and/or other lesser and/or picks, specific value/cost is not the point here)?
Nope. If there were BMac would've gotten them in the summer rather than Thompson.

Lindgren hasn't inspired confidence but LT looks like he's rounding into form and I trust that platoon more than a Talbot or Blackwood or Vladar or Gibson and when you talk about the goalie market it's pretty much just those four guys!

From camp I thought Rybysnki was the most ready, but it will probably be Sutter. Maybe Frank finally gets his game? Could also bring Sgarbossa back and put him on the 4th line or at 3c and move Eller to 4w ...

I think they'd move Mangiapane to that line with Dowd and Raddysh and either give Lapierre a shot on the wing or bring up Frank/Miro to run a pure winger with Eller and Vrana.

Man, the main boards disdain for PLD is pretty entertaining. Trying to say he wasn't noticeable last night is hilarious. He wasn't perfect, but he had 2 apples and was moving his legs most of the night. The contrast between him this year, and Kuzy the last 2 years, is so stark.
I thought it was funny that one person said he watched the game and PLD is completely averse to being net front or contact along the boards. When McMichaels first goal was scored with him in the goalies lap, and physically outmuscling a dman on the boards led to the Chychrun goal.

I really don’t think they will move Lappy to wing (and I don’t want them to). I think they are just as committed to Lappy at center as they are McMichael at wing.

I think they leave Mangiapani on third line with Jake and Lars. Give that line a chance to get some games together and build off of last night.

They have played Milano at 4th line but he is hurt. Trineyev plays on left a lot but he is hurt too. Rybinski is playing well and could earn a call-up. He plays center in Hershey but they have a lot of centers to backfill so I’d like to see that. Strome hasn’t been a regular so i doubt he comes up plus he might only be on an AHL only deal.

Its just the posters who hate caps in general. Not much to point fingers at these days so they moved on to smaller target. PLD will catch a break when Caps cool off a bit.

PLD has helped unlock Mikey, got Willy off to a good start, is a strong possession guy, has some go f*** yourself-ness to his game, and clearly has Carbs trust. He also seems to be taking the move to 2nd PP without a lot of fuss, and has still been effective there. All that for the combined cost of two players (Kuemper and half-Kuzy) that had negative value for the Caps.

I don’t know if it’s BMac or Chris Patrick, but the Caps willingness to look through all the noise and negativity around PLD and obtain him with $ that was previously used for negative value players may end up being one of the best contrarian trades the NHL has seen for awhile

I finally put that thread on Ignore the other day, to reduce my temptation to read it and just get annoyed.

PLD could score 50 goals and Kings fans would complain about his lack of defense. He could be the best shutdown defensive center in the league and Kings fans would complain about his lack of goals.

TBH I can't blame them too terribly much, given what they gave up to get him (and then gave him in the contract). I think once upon a time we might've been happy enough with 27 points in 62 games from a middle six winger. Except the fact that they we gave up Forsberg for it. (Edit to add, and expected him to be a top line player.)

Guy doesn't have to pass Mikey for goals to be effective. He's contributing to the team, not dragging things down. These castoffs and misfits seem to be gelling into something that could be special here. If he's hoisting a Cup next summer, are they still gonna hate? Probably, but it'll be part of hating the Caps as a whole!

Importantly the Capitals were in a good cap situation to take a flyer on him. He’s never going to be worth the contract he has, but he won’t be a huge issue.

I’d say if they hated him so much and were thrilled that he’s not on their team anymore, they should move on. Blame your own dumb f***ing GM.

To me it is amazing that Carbs set the lines so early. Communicated what they were. Three of the four have shown great chemistry from the jump. I love the Eller move to solidify the third. this whole leadership team from President down to assisstants is world class.

With the below query, I am *not* advocating for trading LaPierre. In fact, I don't think they should, much the same way I pushed back against the idea of trading McMichael this summer. But I think spitballing here is fair.

Assuming the team continues close to their current pace and they go into the playoffs with expectations of proceeding past the first round... Do we trust Thompson and/or Lindgren to be 'the guy/s' to start and succeed in the playoffs? Or would we rather have a Proven Veteran Starter type?

Are there any goalies that:
* have the history of performance to have confidence in them?
* are on teams that would be likely sellers at the deadline (and willing to trade their starting goalie)?
* (optional here I guess, but) ... preferably are young enough and/or on decent contracts past 2024-25?

Obviously, some guys might cost a heck of a lot more than we'd want to pay.

To be honest, I don't see many guys that would fit the bill, at least not at this point. Cam Talbot maybe? Believe it or not, he's 15th among all active goalies in save percentage (cough cough right behind Kuemper at 14th), and 4th this season among goalies with at least 5 games. But he doesn't give me the warm and fuzzies about relying on him for a good playoff run.
No. You’re kidding, right?

A Goalie for Lapierre? Goalies are soooo random. Look who’s won cups the last decade?

Vasi x2…then? Bob? Who is the epitome of random?

Bob was a KNOWN playoff choker. Until he wasn’t. Just like our Caps.

I like our G’s. A lot. Either could catch lightning in a bottle. Let them go.

IF we trade a Lapierre type player, it needs to be a big upgrade somewhere. It can’t be G, our guys are good enough as is.

Like Lappy and Mangiapane and a high pick or prospect for a Brady Tkachuk. Totally not happening, but it needs to be a youngish difference maker. Forward.

A forward version of Chychrun.

It’s gotta be something like that. Major impact.

Thanks for the input

Honestly?

I’d put Sgarbossa back in. He can grind. And the line is usually about Dowd anyway (when up and when down)

Avs feed mentioned that no team has kept MacKinnon so quiet. No points. No shots. Zero high-danger chances for. 0 goals for, 1 against. He saw a lot of PLD's line.

I'll take it. How many teams have done that to MacKinnon in the last like 200 games?
