If I'm Grieg, I'm doing the same f***ing thing next time I have an EN opportunity like that vs the Leafs.

Imagine thinking its OK to cross check a dude in the face because you felt disrespected lol ...there are many other ways to handle that situation, without using your stick like a p***y.

I hope they throw the book at Reilly.

Imagine thinking disrespecting your team by shooting a slap shot into an open net warrants crosschecking a guy in the f***ing head. It's Neanderthal thinking like that that needs to be removed from the game. What Greig did was lame, but Rielly reacted like a punk ass bitch. He showed how mentally soft he and his team are. He showed what a dumb ass hothead he is. It was a meathead overreaction and a player acting like a man-child. It's not something to be celebrated whatsoever.

I absolutely hope he gets 5+ games.

Actually, I grew up despising the Leafs and their uppity fans.

Unlike you, this has nothing to do with which team I support. You're naive if you think Greig did not know Reilly was coming. He knew, and cowardly he feigned to not notice by looking the other way.

I've said my 2 cents. Done with this.
Dude, I'm not speaking out against Reilly's act because of a team I favour ... Greig may have known he was coming but to expect a cross check to the head is another thing altogether.
Purposeful head shots have no place in the NHL .. unless it's a fight and who knows how long that will be allowed. The neanderthal days are now extinct ... aren't they?!

For all the people defending Reilly's actions in this thread, I have to ask...

In game 4 against Minnesota in 2015, the Wild pulled their goalie, and the Blackhawks had a 2-0 to the empty net. Rather than respectfully tucking the puck into the net, one player passed the puck to Toews, who released a full, knee-to-the-ice one-timer at the empty net. Flashy stuff.

Now, Toews hit the post.

But had he scored, you would have all been cool with one of the Wild cross-checking Toews in the face?

I, personally, would have been firmly on the side of 'No, Jonathan Toews does not deserve to be cross-checked in the face for putting a little oomph on the empty-netter'. Just as I think Reilly should get 5+ for responding to a guy goofing on his team with a slapper into the empty net. Cause if you have a problem with him scoring the goal that way, YOU SHOULD STOP HIM.

Reilly will pay the price for his action but it seems to me the NHL needs to have a rule for this bush league crap by Greig ... similar to the hot dogging rule in the NFL, with a fine attached.

Might not be the greatest idea. I'm 6"3, 240 and currently doing the 3 major compound exercises. I'll settle for your handshake however.

(For the record, I'm no boomer, I'm 42
That’s good, Height makes you an easier target. Your working out gives you (as shown here) a false sense of confidence.

What a silly post. You prefer they have a speed limit on shots?

What Greig did was inflammatory but not against the rules (unwritten or otherwise) but Reilly was flat out stupid. He deserves a lengthy suspension. What Reilly was a cowardly act.

It's a two minute unsportsmanlike penalty at worst Bobby. He blasted home an empty netter. The other guy cross checked him in the f***ing head. You're completely on the wrong side of this.

This is a league where if Reilly dropped the gloves and started throwing haymakers 90% of the people on my side would have been like yea that makes sense. That's fine.

I've played. I absolutely would have said or done something if I was Reilly. I wouldn't have resorted to stick work because that's so much more chicken shit. It's baffling to me that you can't understand this.

I am fine with there being a response. There probably should be. You can deem what Greig did as disrespectful. That is Greig's game anyway and he's good at it. But what Reilly did was bush league.

Crosscheck to the head isn't it, and Reilly is even more stupid to get a big sussy when the Leafs need him in the worst way.

Of course I understand it and I know Reilly regrets his reaction but Greig knew very well that he was going to be a target after the bush-league play ... instead he acted like he didn't know it was coming..... right.

I find it hilarious that the poster crying about the players and the game getting soft, is now advocating a penalty or fine for....shooting a f***ing puck into an empty net the "wrong" way. Get the f*** out of here.

What's next? Suspending guys for trash talk? Lmfao.
Yup, complain that the game is soft, but cry because a guy shot a puck into an empty net.

Tough guys fight, fake tough guys cross check dudes in the face after the end of a play. Seriously, that's just peak jumping a guy that's having a drink at a bar or going to go get your gun to feel brave levels of obviously small dude trying to feel big behavior.

Honestly, I've accepted that some people find a type of shot into an empty net as upsetting for reasons utterly inane to me, but sorry... what Rielly did in response is still dumbass neanderthal behavior, apologies for disparaging neanderthals.

Who cares how it was shot in? There isn't a rule that you gotta gently shoot the puck into an empty net.

If Reilly doesn't like it, I advise he and his team play better next time. You sure as hell don't head shot somebody.
The thing is you absolutely CAN head shot somebody for it. Drop the mitts and bomb away. It's part of what makes hockey hockey. You just can't use your deadly weapon in the process.

If prime David Backes does that against the Blackhawks I'd be upset if John Scott doesn't light him the f*** up. But it's written into the rules how you go about it. Dude can turtle the whole way. Your coach gladly pays that fine you sit your game for the instigator and 98% of the hockey community is on your side. You don't go full chicken shit and use your stick. That's not how tough guys play tough hockey. Ever.

The thing is Greig should have expected a response. You don't do that to a regional rival. Bobby isn't wrong about that. You don't show people up in a sport that face punching is encouraged and then be flabbergasted when you get punched in the face. If Greig gets suckered because he's unprepared I'm on Reilly's side. f*** around You're gonna find out. It's entirely about the stick work.

This isn't even a fight worthy thing, though. Like, go give him a slash on the legs, get in his face, and talk some shit? That's about it. It was such a f***ing nothing burger thing.

You play them a bunch. Just get him back next game....

It's not a page worth of discussion if he started swinging is my point. You could think he overreacted but he reacted. Stick work is for cowards.

Sure it is. Because nobody is expecting to have to fight after that, with five seconds left in the game. So he would have gotten jumped. And it would still be something he gets suspended over. So, still a stupid ass decision. But yeah, the stick work just makes it worse.
